Message 1162306 - Posted: 14 Oct 2011, 20:33:39 UTC - in response to Message 1162250.

During the last couple of weeks issues, I added MB to my 11 AP only machines (just to keep them warm). A couple of days ago I switched them back to AP only. I have faith that the issues will be fixed. I do however have 1 question.

With AP_validate3 running the way it is and waithing validation rising, will this not become an issue at some point? Like storage? Not being validated, they are also not being purged or deleted.

Yes, the 68863 workunits waiting for validation represent nearly 578 GB of storage. More than half a 1TB drive in terms of home computers, perhaps a significant amount of the RAID array storing WUs for the servers. The 231768 AP "Results out in the field" is also high and probably represents more WUs and storage space.

I doubt AP purging will ever be an issue, those database records are many fewer than MB.

Glad to hear you think so......

We have all kvetched about storage lately.
Just cut the Kraken loose and let the kitties fill the kibble bowls to the rim and I will quit worrying about downtime.

Is there any way to use my settings to request only CUDA AP WU's? I don't mind crunching AP's but if they aren't getting done one my GTS 450 they take eons to complete.

I've gotten a few AP WU's but never a CUDA AP WU.

Thanks in advance.

Not with your settings.
You need to install OpenCL AP app separately.
But you are using 280x drivers thats causing high CPU load with OpenCL apps.

And btw its no Cuda app its OpenCL.

Right now I have 201 AP WUs awaiting validation or wingmen, 3 showing valid, and 237 ready to crunch.
And that is with AP only enabled 'if no other work is available', just what the scheduler pushed onto my rigs when it could not fulfill MB requests.

That, and 7,391 MB WUs in pending........

This is really weird.
15 minutes ago at 8:55 am Pacific Time all three ap validators did not even show on the server list.
Then 15 minutes later the are back and ap_validate_3 is still a no go.
For a minute or two I thought we where in luck but no luck today.
I sure hope this gets ironed out.
I can crunch 6 in 12 hours so they are adding up. It would be nice to get them validated since we go through the time and electricity to crunch them. It only stands to reason they get VALIDATED.
It's almost to the point of not crunching them any more!!!!!

I'm sure they'll get validated sooner or later. It may be requiring manual intervention right now, and that's been in short supply around the server closet lately.

I sure hope so.
I want to try and do the astropulses on gpu but when they are not even validating then there is no sense to do them.

Found your host 5934358, which made a lot of
errors, maybe you could REattach, after installing BOINC 6.12.34 again.

Let it run to see if everything works as it should and if want todo more work
you could install the LUNATICs optimized app.s for MB and AstroPulse.

Well, I've got 16 cores and 3 GPU's running, and my RAC is going backwards.

I'm currently sitting on 98 AP's to be validated and have another 77 in progress.

Al;l I can say is, wait till that flood gate opens, look out!

Today morning I have seen working ap_validate3 and decreasing count of AP's "Workunits waiting for validation" on the "Server status". But after short time "Not Running" again...

Message 1163726 - Posted: 19 Oct 2011, 17:39:22 UTC - in response to Message 1161895.

Hi msattler,

I have directed this question to you because by going by
your very high credit score you may have had the most experience
at running ASTROPULSE, but others here can answere if they wish to.

The question is that I started to run Seti@home for the first time
yesterday via the use of two computers. On one of them an ASTROPULSE
work unit got downloaded and I noticed that the expected running time
to completion was around 17 hours. Fortunately I decided to bench run
Seti overnight to see how it performed unmonitored and hence allowed
this work unit to complete within a day. I notice via reading various
threads here that having A GPU fitted can make work units complete much
quicker. Unfortunately for my computers they can not take GPU upgrades
as I have checked this out on the web. So the question is should I continue
to process ASTROPULSE work units since I do not intend to leave my computers
switched on all day and night. Hence the 17 processing hours could take me a
week to clear if I only run my computers for a couple of hours each night.
Is taking a week or more to clear an ASTROPULSE work unit more of a hinderance
to you than a help?

I don't see running AP work as a hindrance. I do mostly MB work, but all computers are set to accept AP if no MB is available, and the scheduler does send them my way on a fairly regular basis.
Even if your computers are not running 24/7, there is no problem doing the longer AP WUs as long as they are running long enough to complete the work before the deadline date. A lot of AP WUs take a lot longer than a week for some hosts to process and return, so I don't think you shall have any problems.

And welcome to Seti!!

Hi msattler & kitties...

I have now got 5 ASTROPULSE WU ready to run so due to the processing time
required to clear them then it's best I run my computers continually
overnight. To this end I have reset my preference settings to stop anymore
ASTROPULSE WU's from uploading so to avoid a serious back-log. Having been
running SETI@home for a week now and so far have had no problems other than
yesterday evening when Seti seemed to be down for several hours.

for me it is better to crunch AP because they are longer and give in my opinion better credit per second running and in some cases you have a big bonus from some units. But the validation of the AP ... this is another story.

As for me, now AP units and MB units are validading equally quick.

I now see a steady increase of "Results returned and awaiting validation" on the Status page.

Did the Seti Gods fix the ap_validate3 problem simply by hard coding the status to "Running" / green? ;)
