I'd rather buy 2 GTX580's, probably more expensive, never liked those Double Cards, but that just my opinion. My 480 produces quite a lot of heat and it still runs without a case, with an X9650@ 3.5GHz (stock=3GHz) which gets less hot 65oC, the 480 80oC. PSU, now a 650Watt, doesn't even get warm. (~40oC) It Uses 370 - 410Watt, measured at 230V side of PSU! Since not only the PSU has losses(efficiency), often 20% to 15% is converted in heat, but all the chips, including the CPU and GPU('s), efficiency in the (100+Millions), transistors, which are 'only' switching at a very high frequency, but still, produce heat cause they are not perfect insulators or conductors, the 0 & 1 state. A bit simplyfied, but that is all a processor does :) |

Well, i'm running now my first GTX590. :-) Doing three Workunits at a time per GPU. So 6 at a time. This not overclocked MSI GTX590 needs 20 min for 6 mid range Workunits. Power Draw for the GTX590 alone is about 330-335 Watt, the whole System 635 Watt. Helli |

Well, i'm running now my first GTX590. :-) Very nice Helli. Gonna keep an eye on it and see how well it runs. 6 units at a time is quite a chunk for a single card. Have you timed 4 at a time to see if there is a time difference? Traveling through space at ~67,000mph! |

Do you mean 4 per Card? Two per GPU? Tomorrow i will test 4 per GPU, 8 per Card because the Card has 2x 1536MB Memory and with three Workunits only 942 MB are used. The GPU Load with 3 Workunits is about 92-95%. Maybe a little Room for another Workunit? :D Helli A loooong time ago: First Credits after SETI@home Restart |

Helli, I would also like to know times for 2 per gpu or 4 for the card. Have you noticed any heat issues? What are the temps running at? Thanks Dan |

And the noise level? |

@dan actually i have not testet 2 per GPU, but will do. Both GPUs running at 80-84°C (84% Fan Speed) with 3 Workunits per GPU and an ambient Temp of 31°C. @JohnDK Can't say anything about Noise. Running an air cooled 4x GTX295 Rig in the same Room makes a looot of Noise. :D Helli A loooong time ago: First Credits after SETI@home Restart |

Do you mean 4 per Card? Two per GPU? If you are using GPU-Z for monitoring, what's the max load on the memory controller, 3 or 4 per GPU?? Martin |

Well if you can afford the power. Looking forward to your RAC hitting 100,000. |

Do you mean 4 per Card? Two per GPU? I was talking about 2 per gpu 4 total on the card in stead of the 6 you have running now. Sounds like you have enough memory to play with possibly up to 8 cards, but I'm with Martin, I would like to see some memory controller information as well. Sounds like a beast of a card, how do you think it stacks up with the 295's? Traveling through space at ~67,000mph! |

Ok, i have now a few Values more: WUs GPU Load Mem Contr Load Mem Used WU Time 4 89% 43% 675 MB 880 Sec. 6 94% 43% 904 MB 1230 Sec. 8 95% 45% 1216 MB 1610 Sec. Power Draw and Temperature have not changed with the different Setups. 330 Watt with 83°C. I would say, one GTX590 can do the work of two GTX295 with 1.5x times the Power Draw of a GTX295. :-) The GTX590 are very hot, so i'm not sure if it's possible to run more than one Card with no room between each other. Maybe only watercooled... Helli A loooong time ago: First Credits after SETI@home Restart |

Thanks! Helli, That 590 is definitely a Beast! (Why does my GTX 460 suddenly 'feel like' a Celeron...:)...) Martin |

Ok, i have now a few Values more: Interesting no doubt, looks like 6 maybe the sweet spot for me if I had one. As far as the temps go they run cooler than the 480's! You should be able to run more than one because each card is design with a "bump" / "slop" whatever else you want to call it to allow for sufficient cooling. At that point it would be more about having proper case cooling than having room, the room is there, but how much fresh air are they getting. So who wants to be the first to throw two of these in with a dual xeon machine so we can all geek out and giggle?! Traveling through space at ~67,000mph! |

Ok, i have now a few Values more: Blocks exist from Koolance already, I'd sell off 5 of My GTX295 cards with blocks just to buy 1 or 2 cards and 1 or 2 blocks, If I thought I could, I actually have 6 cards, but one has only 1 working core for some reason. Thanks for the information Helli. I will definitely have to look into those more when I have some funds. Dan |

Looks like Danger Den also has blocks out and cheaper than Koolance. Dan |

Looks like Danger Den also has blocks out and cheaper than Koolance. I highly recommend DangerDen, but then again I'm a bit partial. Traveling through space at ~67,000mph! |

EVGA now has water cooling blocks preinstalled for those who want that. They are also selling a two pack of cards with the water blocks. Only $1730. EVGA Product List Dan |

Yeah for the 'low' price of $1730 we will give you not one, but two video cards. And if you order in the next 3 minutes we will throw in water blocks for free! Well if you really want the air cooled ones, those are $1430. I don't know if I would want to convert a $700+ card to water cooling myself yet. The water blocks don't seem out of line with DIY either. Dan |
