I noticed this problem before the server problem, and since the servers came back up, my Windows 7 x64 computer received numerous workunits on Tuesday. Today, I opened BOINC Manager and as it opened I noticed the workunits disappear from the screen. I saw this before the server problem and didn't pay attention to it until today. After I noticed this, I looked at my Projects page and noticed my computer had disconnected from the Seti@Home project. When I reattached to the project, the workunits were still not visible. When I checked the status of the workunits on the Seti@Home website I noticed all of my then pending workunits had a status of Adandoned. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 x64 from Windows 7 x86, and since then was when I first noticed my computer was disconnecting from the project. I have uninstalled and reinstalled BOINC numerous times to no avail. Any assistance appreciated.

Are you using an account manager like BOINCstats BAM! or GridRepublic? If so, you'll have to attach using that account manager, otherwise it will detach your host with every contact.

I tried it both ways, using the BOINCStats BAM! account manager and logging directly into the project. When I attach using BOINCStats BAM! account manager it does not attach to the project(s).

It occurs either way, but not everytime I open BOINC Manager, just sometimes. I have currently set BOINC Manager to Not Accept new Tasks and will wait a couple of days before opening BOINC manager again as it downloaded more tasks while I was checking my account task status. I will let it finish what it has. It does not appear to detach as long as I do not open BOINC Manager to check and see if there are any problems.

I do not have this problem with my Linux machine. Both are running version 6.10.58.

It did not happen when I was running the x86 version in Windows 7 x86 32-bit. I may switch back and try it again when it finishes the current set of assigned tasks.

Contrary to people's beliefs. BOINC Manager doesn't do much. It makes controlling the BOINC client manageable, hence the Manager addition to the name.

All BOINC Manager is, is a graphical user interface that makes it easier for you to give commands to the separately running underlying client, giving you the chance to click on buttons to make it do stuff, not having to open a command line window and needing to fill in textual commands.

The client does all the communications with the projects, or in your case with the account manager web site, the storing of the amounts of work, the scheduling of the CPU/GPU telling it when what project is eligible to do work next, etc.

And so, opening BOINC Manager won't make or break your connection with an account manager. Just running it in the system tray means it's open already, so maximizing it to the desktop will not make any difference. If it is working now, minimized, it will work maximized.

It will! You just have to wait until your client contacts BAM! or you could initiate the contact immidiately (Tools/Advanced? menu).

It occurs either way, but not everytime I open BOINC Manager, just sometimes.

As Ageless said, it has nothing to to with the BOINC manager but all with the client contacting BAM!

I have currently set BOINC Manager to Not Accept new Tasks and will wait a couple of days before opening BOINC manager again...

Setting NNT will not prevent your client from contacting BAM! and thus to detach at the next contact.

You'll either have to disconnect from BAM! or to let BAM! do the attach.

Gundolf
