Let the games begin!! All my uploads have gone in and everything reported. The downloads have started too but are sitting in transfers waiting right now. At least on my machine. Hmmmm, someone changed their mind. Looks like the download servers have been disabled again. :-( PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

Let the games begin!! All my uploads have gone in and everything reported. The downloads have started too but are sitting in transfers waiting right now. At least on my machine. In his end-of-outage message here Jeff said that again this week he would keep the download servers off-line for a couple hours so uploads and reports could get through. Since the schedulers are up, you'll get new Tasks assigned, but download attempts will give HTTP errors until the download servers are turned on. Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

True Don but the uploads did drop, and the download servers have been turned on. There is a fight going on for space but some are getting through. PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

Right, perryjay, but you posted (and edited) the message I replied to BEFORE the Download servers came online, so I presumed you had not seen Jeff's message in Tech News. Not trying to get on your case, just providing information you and others may not have seen. (8{) Plus, I forgot to set NNT before I enabled network activity this morning, so I got 5 new Tasks assigned, but had BOINC Managers on both my G4s complaining and calling me names for about 2 hours until the Download servers came up. good info for new guys but for most of us this isnt our first rodeo I've noticed that sometimes us "old guys" need reminding, too. (8{) But some of the newer folks actually read the most recent threads looking for answers before they post questions. I know I did, when I first started reading the boards. I've also begun to notice that I sometimes drop into "teacher" mode a little faster than I should. As much as I enjoy helping others by sharing my knowledge, I'll try to suppress that urge a bit. Right, perryjay, but you posted (and edited) the message I replied to BEFORE the Download servers came online Don, What I was trying to point out was that the download servers must have been on for a short time just before I posted as I had a bunch of downloads in my transfer tab at that time. The servers must have just been on for a minute or so because the DLs I had were stopped dead in their tracks. I then checked the server status page and saw they were off again and edited my post. The Sith Lord must have switched them off when he showed up. :-) PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

No panic but I sure hope my downlopads download soon.Isnt this how ghosts happen? Maybe Ill take the tip that Sten-Arn gave and set to NNT next week end. I have enough enough ghosts and -12's to last me a while:) [/quote] Old James |

I've been getting some WUs downloaded just now. I also prefer the NNT method, but this week I didn't get enough GPUs to fill my 4 days cache due to the estimate times half sucks :) |

I think something might have been changed since the last outage. Previously it's been difficult to contact the Scheduler. Once you do & work is allocated it might take a couple of attempts & then it downloads OK. This week, no problems contacting the Scheduler & getting downloads allocated, but but most downloads time out before they get started, and those that do start download very, very slowly (usually 100kB/s, presently 1-2kB/s). You could also take a 'chill-pill' for to relax over the weekend.. :o) My 940 BE with 4x GTX260 needed ~ 5 hours, yes - I repeat - ~ 5 hours for to upload all results of 3 days (all gone well through, no backlog) with my DSL light (384 DL/64 UL kbit/s). 8-O Now he would like (because of thousands of backlogged) to DL all fresh WUs and will need time to the next Tuesday for to do this. About the E7600 with GTX260 I don't need to speak.. Because my Inet line is maxed out.. Yes, everyone have his 'specially personally problems'. If I wouldn't have the trait patiently, I would get now a tantrum. I hope one day I have my dream 'DSL fast'.. ohh how nice this would be! I looked to the ISP site again.. If everything will go well, I could get up to DSL 35000 (35,000 DL/5,120 UL kbit/s).. nice, nice, nice.. then everything will happen in seconds and not in hours/days.. *daydream* (if the SETI@home server/Inet line 'play' well with).. :o) X-D |

I think switching to NNT & just getting the work uploaded is the answer. I'll try that next time. |

I've just been letting my BOINC Manager do it's thing. I was still overloaded with GPU work from a mistake I made last week anyway. Everything went fine, uploads went in, downloaded new CPU tasks, no ghosts. Downloads did take a few tries but got here. Downloads have slowed up though because I got an AP that thought it would take ~300 hours to complete. It's been running 11 hours, is 63% done and still thinks it's going to need another 15 hours. Once I get through that, downloads should go back to where they should be so I'm not worried. PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

One is overloaded, still has a lot MB WU's from before last weeks outage and my fastest rig is still trying to DLoad a MB WU's, which has stopped at 50% D'Load. (Post numbers aren't updated, too) Some AP WU's would be nice , too Wish all a good weekend and nice wheather, since it rains here and with 13C, it doesn't look like summer, at all. Rainy day, dream away..... |

Right, perryjay, but you posted (and edited) the message I replied to BEFORE the Download servers came online Okay, that wasn't clear from your initial message. The DL servers may have been on for a minute or two between your post and edit. Looking back at the Cricket graph, Uploads peaked about 1015-1030 PDT, and Downloads started about 1130 PDT. There is a sharp dip and spike in the Uploads graph about 0930. Your post was at 0932 PDT (1632 UTC). Maybe someone turned on the DL servers, then realized that Uploads had not yet peaked, and turned DLs off again. I turned on network Activity at about 0830 PDT (1530 UTC), and since I had forgotten to set NNT, the Schedulers assigned 4 new Tasks, which my BOINC Managers immediately tried to download. But the DL attempts got HTTP errors, which reminded me that the DL servers were not online yet, so I abused the Retry buttons until I got about a 2-3 hour backoff on each Task. (Should have just turned Network Activity OFF and come back in a couple hours. Hadn't had my second cup of coffee yet.) When I came back about 1200 PDT to check, all my Tasks had downloaded, and one was running on the Laptop. Then I dropped in to the Forums, and when I read your edited post, I thought the same thing had happened to you. Sorry about that. Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |
