Hi
Is it possible to use 2 cuda cards one is 195gt and the other is a 210. Boinc is only using the 210 at 45 gflops while the 195gt has 90gflops how can I get the 195 do boinc cuda apps?

Yes, if both (or more) cards are CUDA capable.

You need the following in the <options> section of your cc_config.xml file:

<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>

If it is NOT there, BOINC will use only your "best" CUDA card, and ignore all others.

Also, if you are using Vista or Win7, you need a "dummy" monitor plug in your second card - see http://www.overclock.net/folding-home-guides-tutorials/384733-30-second-dummy-plug.html - or the drivers will not see it, and BOINC will therefore not see it.

And at this stage, you probably don't have a cc_config.xml file at all - by default, BOINC doesn't supply or create one.

You can read about it in client configuration.

Also as far as i am aware the 257.21 drivers don't require dummy plugs to be plugged in anymore.

My experience is that:----

I have a system with a GTX260 and an 8800GTX in it.
I have the <use all gpus> switch in cc_config.
I'm using Windows 7-64HP and I've never used a dummy plug, even when I was using driver version 191.07.

I'm using version 257.21 now, and still don't use a dummy plug.

All I did was to set the 8800GTX as my PhysX card for when I play games.

Try it - It should work fine...

I didn't need dummy plug with 2 cards it was when I added the 3rd card that I had to do the dummy plug. On my next restart I will take them off and see what happens I am using the newer driver.

Well now the only ones to possibly need a dummy plug in windows, Is the Dummy using Vista, But I guess that's all plugged up. ;)

Is this all I have to do or do I need to add more code?

Also I stoped and restarted BOINC and this is what my log says

7/13/2010 12:05:32 PM NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce 9500 GT (driver version 25721, CUDA version 3010, compute capability 1.1, 1024MB, 90 GFLOPS peak)
7/13/2010 12:05:32 PM NVIDIA GPU 1: GeForce 210 (driver version 25721, CUDA version 3010, compute capability 1.2, 512MB, 45 GFLOPS peak)
So my question what is compute capability 1.1 and compute capability 1.2?

Message 1015411 - Posted: 13 Jul 2010, 22:55:31 UTC - in response to Message 1015405.

It's the hardware specification for the actual graphics processing chip on the card. Think of it as equivalent to SSE, SSE2, SSE3 etc. - not an exact analogy, but similar to what we're familiar with for CPUs. So far, none of the applications (stock or third party) requires anything above 1.1 (possibly even 1.0, not sure about that). The Fermi card chips are 2.0, and do require their own special app.

AFAIK, the current planning at Lunatics is to produce single 'fat' programs including both the special code for compute capability 2.0, and other code compatible with the earlier chips - so there would be no need to install different apps for different GPU processors. The only downside of that could be the need to have an up-to-date driver, which could be too much for memory-limited cards. People with 256MB cards might still need to install the old v6.08 app, and an older driver, to fit it all in.

can the gflops be used to also see how good the card are at gaming for instance or is it only the shaders that are measured?

my 8800gt have 336gflops and 380 when overclocked

Also as far as i am aware the 257.21 drivers don't require dummy plugs to be plugged in anymore.

I installed 257.21, and verified that this is indeed correct on my Vista 64-bit system. Again, thanks for the tip.

I can now retire all those resistors I bought (MB is ASUS Crosshair II Formula, with on-board graphics and 3 usable PCIe slots; I have 3 x GT 240s and use the onboard connector for graphics, and exclude that slot (a paltry 19 GFLOPS) from use by BOINC, which is possible in 6.10.56).

Glad to hear it. :)

At least there were finally some fixes in the driver release. :P
