Message 1002492 - Posted: 10 Jun 2010, 12:07:59 UTC - in response to Message 1002488.

In theory, even after you've reached the 100 quota message, you sould be able to get more later in the day after your earlier reported tasks have validated - but with no work available, and no tapes being split, we'll have to wait several hours to test that out properly.

With regard to the "Your app_info.xml file doesn't have a usable version of SETI@home Enhanced" message: I have a suspicion that this may be related to the operating system in use. I'm not getting that message (and I was getting work, on hosts with an app_info.xml, until it ran out). Could those who are getting this message post their OS, please? (platform and bit count only, I think - XP/Vista/7 shouldn't make any difference)

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Steve

64-bit app_infos have given us trouble in the past. Do you have a <platform> or <alt_platform> tag in your app_info?

[And before anyone asks - don't change anything yet! These <platform> tags were the cause of people losing entire caches when optimising in the past. Let the errors and work shortages run your caches down to empty before you start experimenting]

Unfortunately I can't answer that until I get home from work 9 or 10 hours from now. I run a 6 day cache. If I go into my preferences from here, and select no work for the CPU, then it should start to drain. It is running the SSSE3 app.
I just thought of something. Unless it has been altered by the system, what I am using for an app_info file can be downloaded from Todd's files. I forgot which thread it was in, but it was stored on Rapidshare. I will poke around and post a link when I find it.

I'm getting this message on two of my Linux 64 pc's. One is running CPU only, the other one is GPU only. A third Linux 64 pc (GPU+CPU) does not get this message.

On Vista64 and XP32 I only get the "Invalid app version description" message.

It sounds like the server is expecting a 32bit app which to It is usable and yet It sees a 64bit app(and OS XP x64), and says app unusable as a result.

Nope, Not here, No wonder I've not lost anything, Besides a marble or two maybe. ;)

I too use a 64bit OS - XP Pro x64 sp2.

Maybe Bruno is just sick of sending out the "no jobs available" error messages and having a little fun sending out random messages from his library to ease the boredom.

The Bad News.
Like others here I am unable to download any CUDA work. For the past 24 hours, before the splitters ran out of work, on 4 Non-Fermi boxes, I was getting CPU units in dribs and drabs but none for the GPU's. Every call for GPU units resulted in an error message. (XP_32, BOINC 6.10.56, CUDA V6.09)

Both rigs with the messages are Windows 64 bit.

Looks like Lunatics puts platform entries for both x86 and x86_64 in each of the <app version> sections of their app_info.

Slightly off-topic but somewhat related the "Not in DB" application type in my tasks is gone now, its Anonymous platform - CPU or Nvidia GPU again. Seems whatever was borked is now fixed.

Except for my host 4292666, currently not running anonymous platform, I see one task number and one workunit number - then the rest is blank.

They're playing whack-a-mole with the bugs again - squash one, another pops up.

I was about to see that. :) I have about half my tasks cut off too, i guess it's one of those things like you said. Squash one, and another one pops up. It'll all get sorted soon though i am sure. :)

For some of you, the Your app_info.xml file doesn't have a usable version of SETI@home Enhanced. might be coming from an error I notice in a copy of Todd Hebert's app_info.xml. These lines:

        <file_ref>setiathome_6.09_windows_intelx86__cuda_fermi.exe</file_name>
            <main_program/>

Even I'm getting one of these 100 tasks messages, Plus one other saying this:

6/9/2010 9:24:54 PM SETI@home Message from server: Your app_info.xml file doesn't have a usable version of SETI@home Enhanced.

But I haven't seen that or any message in red in almost half an hour(9:24pm PDT).

I too am getting this message in addition to the one with the 100 WU cap. My CPU is crunching away, but I can't get anything for my empty GPU's.

Steve

This is weird Steve, i've got over 36 GPU WU's waiting to start, i hit the limit earlier but i had a 10 day cache running and i changed it back to 3 after testing, but it's still downloaded more than 220 WU's today, and half way through it got the error 3 times, then it just went away. I'm not getting the invalid app version but i am getting "Not in DB".

Do you think yours might be related to the Fermi's?

Jarryd

...let's try that again...apologies if this shows up twice...

I have good old GTS 285s and I am suffering the same problem. Lots of WUs for the CPUs and none for the GPUs. I am thinking we're in some kind of a drought generally.

Regards,

Checked my three Linux64 pc's and all three had this part of the file correct. Still puzzling why only two of these pc's have this message.

I will try to compare the app_info.xml files.

I'm hoping this is related to everything else happening lately,

The data for my machine (4490076) is there, but the wingperson' is not all there, even though credit has been granted.

Like Joe, I've had a look at Todd's app_info.xml

We normally discourage people from opening these files with anything except Notepad: and certainly never edit them with anything except a plain-text editor. But if you open Todd's with Internet Explorer (the default on most Windows systems), you do get a warning that the file cannot be displayed: "End tag 'file_name' does not match the start tag 'file_ref'". A properly-constructed app_info.xml can be displayed in Internet Explorer, though it's not recommended.

Todd's file (like the one it was derived from) also has two copies of the section

    <app>
        <name>setiathome_enhanced</name>
    </app>

They should not be necessary, though until now they don't seem to have caused any problems. One is enough.

Now we're getting some data, I'll see what else I can glean.
