Someone please help. I'm about to ditch SETI and go somewhere where shit works like it is supposed to.

Geez. Grateful much???

Perhaps you should have investigated whether the components you bought would work straight off with SETI@home, instead of just rushing in and buying new technology which will obviously have teething issues for a few months.

The projects scientists do a hell of a lot of work and dedicate their time, money and effort just to give work to people like you who so arrogantly crunch.

Hey guys, cool down.. kindness is the key!

Michael, have a small look in this NC subforum about GTX4xx and SETI@home.

Current you could participate at SETI@home BETA and you could test the 6.09_fermi application.
If well tested this application will be published here for all GTX4xx user.

nVIDIA designed the new Fermi chip different than the old ones.
So a new application is needed for support the whole new chip.

AFAIK, some let run (after installation with little handwork) here at SETI@home MAIN the 'GTX4xx application' of Raistmer with well result.

If Seti would've found the signal, there would be no more use for Seti and it would've stopped by now.

As for your GTX 480, I see you're a Beta tester. The Fermi app is being beta tested on Seti Beta only. It's being developed by the Seti devs in cooperation with Nvidia. They can use all the help they can get, on the Beta forums.

If that's not going quickly enough for you, there's no one who's standing in your way if you want to leave.

You are welcome.

I edited a few times my upper message (to now I didn't got my first cup of coffee of the day ;-) [10:13 AM in Germany]..
You could also install Raistmer's app and crunch at SETI@home MAIN.

... I think I'd be better off doing cancer research anyways since SETI hasn't found anything in decades anyways.

If you like some other project - go for it.

In fact SETI has too much computing power attached lately (~ 1000s times more then when it started 10-11 years ago)

I'm interested only in SETI - (almost) all other projects deal with things which governments are also willing to support/invest.

NO government invests big money in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI)

(Or do they know something we don't ... ? ;) )

Is there anywhere on the seti site that does list the achievements that our crunching has helped with.
Just because ET hasn't been found I would imagine that there must be tons of other discoveries that the search has uncovered as a by product????

Credit BOINC for being in existance for a start so that all other distributed computing efforts since have had the shoulders of giants to stand upon from the get-go. No Seti would have meant BOINC style computing could easily have been a decade longer in developing.

Upon that you can conclude all the benefits of other BOINC-based distributing computing projects harvested their value all that much sooner. Not a bad little accomplishment for simply organzing the bunch of us to help them listen to the stars for ET to call home!

LOL That's like saying when the first extrasolar planet around a main sequence star, 51 Pegasi, was announced in 1995 all astronomers stopped looking for extrasolar planets.

Human curiosity always derives new questions from each answer. When one signal is found, the search will increase both in intensity and width.

I am sure glad that I am reading all the Fermi threads that get started here.
I have been planning to replace my 2 GTX-260's with the new 470's soon.
But from all the problems everyone seems to be having, all the new threads that are being posted, guess I will wait.

If he only knew what a search function was, nonthe less 480s arent working well anywhere.
