Not had Spam for ages - of the food sort anyway.

Me either. I've recently had Hormel smoked ham in a can. I like it with melted mozzarella cheese on bread.

Darnit, now I'm hungry..

Oh no a omnivorous squirrel. ;)

Darn tootin, Can't go without my meat and veggies. Bugs make an excellent in-between meals snack too.

Well the world won't miss a bug or two, As long as It doesn't drive You Buggy. :D

Whether we know or want to know it...Everyone has accidentally and incidentally eaten a few bugs...

I'm very particular about who drives my buggy. I don't just hand over the keys to anybody.

Same here, although Buggy in this case means Mad or Crazy, Mad doesn't mean angry, Although there are some angry people who are mad as a hatter around.

If you get a refund, it means you just gave the government an interest free loan of your money. I am also guilty as charged because I also received a small refund on the Federal taxes.

I'm still waiting for Uncle Sam to pay the eight bucks he owes me! :)

That is closer than I have ever gotten. The closest I have come was $50 back from the Fed, and $10 owed from the state (in the same year). This year, I gave them an interest free loan that is going to pay for new paint for the house...

Eric filed for us today as well. Nothing like waiting until the last minute... money owed to the feds, money back from the state. Eric said it was pretty much a wash.

I claimed a $525 refund. I won't even see it because it's going to pay part of what I still owe from 2008. And I have to pay $210 to the State.

My rent is 16 days past due. I'm about $700 behind in Electric bills, My car insurance is due, phone bill is due (Two months behind) and I have bill collectors trying to get money from me for unpaid medical bills... And I owe about $300 (out of $500) from a loan I got last month at 20% interest.

Life is grand! :)

I get that. I made the rent for April but the first of May ought to be interesting. :P

Here's an article entitled Think Taxes form the California Budget Project.

CBP wrote:
I asked my colleagues here are the CBP — perhaps more of a random sample than might immediately meet the eye — what they thank taxes for. Here are a few replies:

* Our research assistant by day, CSUS graduate student by night, chimed in “a great public education!”

* A policy analyst and parent thanks taxes “for building the parks my daughter plays in.”

* Our office manager thanks taxes for the National Park System, noting that her family is headed to Point Reyes National Seashore – one of my personal favorites — next weekend, and that she climbed the Statue of Liberty last year — a good tax day remembrance on many fronts.

http://californiabudgetbites.org/2010/04/15/thank-taxes/

Yet It seems some people use a lot of things that taxes help pay for(federal matching funds(tax supported) go into a lot of state and local projects) and yet don't want to pay taxes.

Well it has to be said. This IS the 21st Century, I can't believe that aircraft engine manufacturers cannot work out how to incorporate some sort of filter to avoid this problem. Perhaps they have never been pressurised to do so before....

I only think 2 aircraft have ever flown through an ash cloud before. A KLM and a BA - I believe both were 747's.

On the BA flight, from Kuala Lumpur to Perth (747), there was an eruption at an Indonesian volcano - All 4 engines coughed out until the acft was essentially a glider. LUCKILY the engines restarted as they descended below the cloud. They weren't told they were flying through an ash cloud - and since ash is inherently dry, it doesn't show on rain radar. They had no notice. It caused a phenomenon called St. Elmo's Fire. Ionized dust glowed blue as the acft flew through it all.

When they landed, all the engines were clogged with glass (it had heated up so much - the dust melted), the livery was completely scraped off, and the leading parts of the acft were showing their original metal structure.

Essentially - there is no need to design engines to withstand volcanic ash - as the plane gets shredded also.

And these STUPID, STUPID people complaining about the delays. Aviation is a deadly serious business - people seem to act like it isn't. Hell, I had a flight delayed once because the aisle emergency lighting had come out of place. I has a little ticked off because my flight was delayed. But I understood why the delay was warranted.

They are indeed stupid stupid people! I have heard people asking what "solution" the government are going to come up with to combat the ash LOL. Idiots!

The very fine ash has got to lower levels even here now. My car was parked outside for a couple of hours and had a very fine covering on the windscreen (windshield, whatever you guys call it) and the air feels "gritty" to my eyes.

It is being advised that asthma sufferers wear masks or stay indoors and people wearing contact lenses wear glasses instead as the ash will irritate your eyes.

I posted THIS spooky pic in the quake thread, but putting it here for those that miss it.
