To all the i7 crunchers out there... What clock speed is your i7 running at? (What model is it also?) What is preventing you from going higher? How are you temps and what CPU cooler/fan system are you using? Personally, I've got a 3.78GHz clock on my i7 920... temps running at 62-68C full load. Nothing is preventing me from going higher... I just found a nice (reasonably) stable point and I'm happy with it. Running a TR U120E 1366RT w/ Scythe Ultra KAZE 3000rpm 133.5cfm 120mm fan. If I dedicated some time, I think I could get past the 4GHz mark - perhaps a little hot on temperatures though. - Luke. |

i7 CPU 950 3.07 GHz stock 4.16 GHz overclocked Water cooled with a 1/5 hp aquarium chiller in line. The only thing preventing me from going higher is the 145 watts the CPU is consuming will overheat the cooling fluid. A bigget chiller will fix that next year. Full load is about 60°C. I have one at stock cooler/voltage running at 3800mhz, very happy with it, and I have one with a good cooler/+0,070v ronning at 3600mhz. What prevents me to go further is I already lost one i7 920 pushing it too high. And im very sorry to say that I just kill one of my new i5s running it at stock cooler/3600mhz because I didnt realize that my ASUS board kick the voltage up at time to prevent it. Just after windows was instaled, it dies.... :( The other i5 i have is at 3500mhz with stock cooler, 53°C, undervolted at 1,12v So.... do not start that cpu units until you are sure you are safe with voltage/temperature.... |

Luke, nice oc & temps. Do you know how many watts you rigs eating at the plug? Get a freakin' Killawatt. My top 2 rigs live on them. I know every minute what they are doing, or not. It's so silly simple........if I see the watts drop, I know something is amiss. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Luke, nice oc & temps. Do you know how many watts you rigs eating at the plug? I can't find any in NZ. And I can't use the ones from USA since you folks have different wirings. - Luke. |

Have a look here Luke Thanks Jarod - didn't think about looking at jaycar... I simply use pricespy to find the cheapest electronic equipment. But I think this who killawatt discussion is superfluous to the fact that I plan on building a 500-1200W wind turbine - won't need to monitor my electricity bill from meridian much longer! :D - Luke. |

Have a look here Luke I thought about it years ago, but local codes prohibited it. Damn idiots. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Have a look here Luke I'm going with the 'screw the resource consent & regulations' idea. Considering the way my property is located and oriented, no one is going to see it - I live in an urban area, but the views make it look rural. - Luke. |
