Message 1004873 - Posted: 16 Jun 2010, 22:33:27 UTC - in response to Message 1004868.

One of three bear encounters on the same day...

That's brave....

Being raised on the east slope of the Rockies, the missus and I are reasonably wise in the ways of bear. What you can't see in this picture is the long lens on my camera, and the doors open on the car right behind me.

We were told never run, Walk, predators will pursue someone who runs and that goes for Bears too, doubly so as their bigger than anything else that eats meat.

Absolutely. Also, avoid eye contact, bears take that personally.

Old bear joke, stop me if you've heard it. This was a black bear, relatively small. You can tell it is a black bear by breaking open its droppings, and finding bones from mice, rats, and small birds. You need to look out for grizzlies, the big brown ones. If you break open their droppings, you find buttons, belt buckles, and zippers.

Another old bear joke.

If a bear is chasing you, you can easily tell what kind of bear it is. Climb a tree. If the bear climbs the tree after you, it is a black bear. If it shakes you out of the tree, it is a grizzly. If it just knocks the tree over, it is a brown. If everything is white and there are no trees to be seen, it is a polar bear.

It is said Polar Bears fear nothing.

Good one!

Old polar bear story, heard several times in slightly different versions, so maybe it had some truth behind it. A small number of helicopter pilots get their jollies chasing wild life. Moose, bears, whatever. (they're not all like that.) Several have told me that if you chase a polar bear on the open ice it will run at first. It is actually running to the nearest high spot. When it gets there, it rises up on its hind legs, faces the helicopter, and waits for you to get closer.

Last I heard, Jeffrey was having trouble getting work in Arizona and he told me he was leaving the country, probably for Canada. I miss him too. He was a spunky little ant and a nice guy. I hope he comes back some day.

And did somebody here actually have the audacity to "dis" this!!!????!!!!????!!!!!

I miss some of the girls who used to hang around. Anyone remember Stacey Jane?
klc53* and Mrs Miggins seem to have drifted away as well. :(

I pray that you will forgive my most unannounced intrusion, but I could not pass by without inquiring further.

I heard mention of one Mrs. Miggins of long acquaintence to me, and sorely missed I have to say. If anyone has knowlege of the said lady's particulars, or even where she might be residing, a small gratuity will be forthcoming.

Yours in anticipation,

She made an appearance a couple of months ago. I haven't heard from her since.

I don't know anything of her particulars, but the last I heard that the doctor said the antibiotics should clear the infection right up.

The last I heard from her, her computer was throwing fits.

I think though most of the problems have been ironed out. We'll see.
