Positive and good stuff here, no negativity, only bliss and hapiness. Negativity is for the Politics section.

What good have you done to the globe / yourself / to a friend / to the community today?

Today was a Sunday, so apart from arguing about BOINC software...
I watered all 119 trees on my unused section below my property I had planted and sowed from seed scattered around my property. By hand. That's a 2 hour job in itself. The hose can only stretch so far.
I calculated via a carbon emission calculator that my household emits 217.17 kg of CO2e- a month. And once I had that figured, I also calculated that I only need to plant 3.55 trees a year to maintain my carbon neutrality and offset my carbon emissions. In fact, I am carbon negative!!!

And I plan much more tree planting, just to give you an idea, the area I own that I am planting is just over 3000m2. None of it is viable for development, so I go for the next best option. I am planning 1500 trees!

Wanna be carbon negative with me? I have more than enough trees than I'll ever need. Simply work out (carbon emission calculator) how much CO2e- kg/lb you waste monthly/annually, and I'll sponsor your carbon neutrality for free. :)

The 3 kitties helped out as well. Leaping and bounding through the long grass playfully as I worked away.
I also went to the Kapiti Coast to pick up some sticks and stones for the tree markers and path at the top of the bank respectively.

Here are some pictures...
Today, after the fire. From the top of the section, if you were to move slightly back and look right you'd see my house and garden. I wonder if Mark built that fire truck? ;)

Looking southeast. Just one small portion of the bank I have planted. My neighbors house is visible. If you were to go straight up you'd get to my house.

Looking west, past that flax bush is the area of land I'm working with, all the way down to the bottom of the photo. This shows exactly why I get such grand views.

Just one growing section of my land. The trees that were planted the earliest are at the top. You can see the windbreak I put up as well. Behind the top trees is my house, which you can just see.

Olly lapping up the sunshine at the end of the day on top of the bank.

And a spectacular sunset to finish off a great day.

So, now I ask, what good did you do today???

- Luke.

I loved my Squirrel kitty.
She is by my side......simple enough for me.

Watched the sun rise yesterday.

Hope to see it rise today.

Called Lori.

Hugged kitty again.

Drank some more beer.

Responded to my friend Luke.

Prayed to God.

I think that's enough for one day, eh?

As long as it is positive and does good. It's absolutely perfect.
As do I, Mark. . .

Time for me to sit down and watch some TV with the GF.

Played the Lion King song for a good friend, who, I think, will enjoy it.

Second good thing for the day.

Meow meow......I'm on a roll...LOL.

Of the earth I am. Simple man.
Love everything around me.

Yes, even the damned immigrants I complain so loudly about.

A couple of them cleaning the floors at work look at me sooooo sweetly sometimes.
Big brown eyes they have. They are kind souls too. So I smile back.

I am a sap for a smile....yeah, me. The tough kittyman...LOL.

Look, friends.......
My own 'circle of life' is getting near full circle.
The near loss of my Squirrel kitty has kinda brought that to bear.

My eyes are failing me, my mind is going south.

So every day, every minute I have to share with you means a lot to me.

Some day soon, you may all realize just how much.

I have done many good things today. Just being alive was the first step.

Meow.

Meow.

Good on you, Luke and Mark. I fed the dog this morning.

Well, actually, the wife fed him, because she got up before me. She usually does on a Sunday. But I had good intentions....

Later on I will shovel the driveway. Unless my son does first.

Plant a couple of trees for me Luke!

That's an awesome idea.

I am reasonably green anyway, I drive a Toyota Prius, have a heat pump providing hot water & space heating and have insulated as much as this old property will allow me.

How many trees would I need to repay for my annual flights to the US from the UK?!

edit - how may more trees would I need to remove my carbon guilt for a trip to NZ to come & visit my trees? :D

I slept in late. It felt good. When I got up I had a giant mug of coffee. I felt better.

Hi Andy!
Sure, I'll plant some trees for you! I'll take pics as well if you want them... Gotta' wait 2 months though since planting in summer isn't a good idea!

Well, to remove 1 ton of carbon from the air annually requires 5 trees to be planted annually. For the 2009 year, I emitted 710kg of carbon. If you drive a Prius, yours will be about the same!
One 11,000km return flight from London to San Fransisco is about 3969 kg of CO2-e (carbon dioxide equivalent)!!! But since trees breath Carbon & not Carbon Dioxide, the carbon atom makes up 27.27% of the molecule CO2 (by mass). So 3969 (kg) x 0.2727 = 1,082 kg of Carbon. Every return flight you make like that is equal to just over 5 trees annually!
The NZ trip is probably the same...

Cool. I knew you could still homestead in parts of Canada, but didn't realize it was still possible in the US.

I helped to distribute my parish's bulletin in my home city (about 500 homes). So not only I have to write articles (not paid) on the Winter Olympics and other subjects but also to act as a "postino" (cannot remember the English term).

Yes please Luke!

Sounds like I need to give up the twice yearly visits to the US or I'll need a small forest of my own ;)

Thing is though - if I don't get on those flights they will still go...
