According to my virus checker there is a virus on the
BOINC Statistics for the WORLD! site
It wants me to run a program on my computer.
Obviously I did not allow it.

Sorry. I should have been more specific.
The site I was trying to enter was the individual report.
The link is:

That is where I look up my position

I still cannot get to that website. Every time I go there Windows Internet Explorer stops me and says there is a malicious virus on that page. then it closes it down.
I am not familiar with FF with ad blocker. What is that? And how can I get it?

Ok, I see what you mean. My AntiVir throws a warning about the external site it tries to download this PDF file from. The web site with the problem is http://x-skip.cn

You may want to block that one.

Virus or unwanted program 'HTML/Malicious.PDF.Gen [virus]'
detected in file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Ageless.RUBA\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\EYVU5AV1\002[1].pdf.
Action performed: Deny access

.pdf is the only extension. what AV (antivirus) you using? has anyone downloaded this pdf and actually scanned it properly? not just with a resident shield? If it does contain anything bad then the link should be removed even if an advertisement. if x-skip.cn is valid and not going to harm your computer then report this to your antivirus company or x-skip itself so they dont loose valuable people browsing the site due to a false detection.

I just tried to visit the site (main page) and the PDF file launched without permission and crashed Adobe and Firefox.

The PDF file came from x-skip.cn

I've been with BOINC Synergy for several years but I'll have to leave if I can't visit the page without an infected PDF file loading.

Block the offending site then in your browser. All browsers have that possibility, be it by default or by plug-ins.

Thank you for the reply. I have appropriate protection so there was no harm done in my case.

Granted, end users who get infected bear most of the responsibility but a site admin should also take quick action when an infection is being relayed through their site and/or advertising. That was the reason for my original post.

It appears that the offending file is gone at this time.

Thanks again.
