John, I am a certified Tax Pro. My advise to the Korpelas is sound. My Nephew would say I'm just certified, But He likes to kid around with Me. :D The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

John, I am a certified Tax Pro. My advise to the Korpelas is sound. OK. I am not, and I was raising an issue which I had not seen addressed yet. Could the Rabies shots be taken as a business expense, or would they have to be treated as a medical expense. Business expenses are mostly deductible from $1, but medical expenses have a largish % of income that they have to pass before they are deductible (this from doing my own taxes every year, I am NOT a professional, and if you have questions, consult your OWN tax adviser.). Many years ago some friends from work developed a lecture program and went here and there doing professional trainings in my field. They never made much money doing it, but they claimed lots of travel related expenses as "business expenses". If I recall correctly, after a few years of not making a profit they had to re-classify their "business" as a "hobby" and they couldn't claim travel expenses any more. Hey Uli, if I have "job stress" and consequently sign up to take a stress-reducing meditation course on some lovely beach somewhere in the South Pacific, can I count that as "continuing education" and a "business expense"? Can I also write off an obligatory mai-tai or two? Here's hoping!!!!! |

John, I am a certified Tax Pro. My advise to the Korpelas is sound. If they incorporated as Raccoon Wranglers, Inc, then of course it is a business expense. Got to keep the employees healthy! If it is a hobby, then it is a hobby. |

The question is will the IRS agree. Get a Doctor to write a prescription and it becomes harder for them to disagree. They would take exception to the same thing being written off twice though. And they are a bit picky about those foreign conferences and why they had to be conducted outside the USA, like BOINC-Con Fiji. |

Eliminate any awkward questions about the Mai-Tais. Make sure the Sessions are held at an all-inclusive facility... |

Just discovered this thread...story. Some time ago, there was a loud series of "BANG"'s outside of my house (probably from a large empty truck hitting the speed bumps) and my cat took off like a bolt of lightning hit him. ...I finally found him. He was in a most ingenious hiding place: "No see I here!" Sadly, Charlie is no longer with me, but last year I had a nightime visitor. Okay he's homely, but I still thought he was cute: He showed up every night for about a week eating the bugs that were attracted to the light from my window. Then I never saw him again. He was about five inches long not counting his tail. (I say him, but of course I have no way of knowing if it was him or her) 'Possums need love too. Man's future lies in the stars, not on Earth. Hello Will and welcome to the Critter Cafe. If you sprinkle some bird seed outside your window "Mr" Possum (or one of "his" kin) will return. They are like little seed vacuums! Yours looks like a very young one. They can get much bigger than that. Did you give him a name? |

Thank-you for the welcome Angela. No, no name, just cute little fellow. Hadn't seen hide nor hair of him since, just thought I would share the photos. I occassionally see an adult roaming around our neighborhood, one of which likes to visit our bird feeder, but with two large dogs in the house and a number of feral cats roaming the neighborhood, it's not a very 'possum friendly area. Southern boy, so I know about 'possums. It's actually pretty amazing; living in the suburbs of Houston and we have raccoons, oppossums, squirrels, feral cats, and of course the ubiquitous rats as well as various birds including hawks and owls (never seen it, but have heard it at night). Life will find a way...even in the city. Cheers, Will Man's future lies in the stars, not on Earth.
