Gmail has come up with a new innovation for their email system that I think all email should incorporate.... A 5 second 'undo send' button..... I am sure every one of us has at one time or another hit the send button on an email only to instantly realize we have made a mistake either in the content or the intended recipients....... And the 'mail goggles' feature would help some of us who like to imbibe a bit.....LOL. CNN article on Gmail... "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Can they make one of these for when you're talking? I could use it, sometimes. |

I know of noone (myself included) who's done that in an email....it happens. It does. I've received some pretty weird emails and PM's from some people who really shouldn't drink and type. But I guess that if they are drunk they won't be able to make it the 5 sec's regret time anyway. :-( "I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world." - Me |

I know of noone (myself included) who's done that in an email....it happens. The problem with chemically alterd states of minds is that when you are in that state, you believe that your are being clever, so the 5 second rule would not do any good. A breathalyzer controlled computer might though... BOINC WIKI |

If you're using an Exchange server, you can perform a message recall anytime you want. |

I know of noone (myself included) who's done that in an email....it happens. You might be able to fool that with a can of compressed air. me@rescam.org |

If you're using an Exchange server, you can perform a message recall anytime you want. Until it has actually been delivered. I have had times when I realized I switched send lists on two messages. I would have made the 5 seconds, but it was delivered long before that... BOINC WIKI |

If you're using an Exchange server, you can perform a message recall anytime you want. You can recall after it has been delivered. I had to write a series of scripts that do this daily on false positives for SMARTS InCharge. |

It seems that several systems are following that trend. MS Outlook is incorporating the same feature and Google put it on hotmail accounts. |

I'm happy this wasn't around a few years ago when one of the supervisors emailed the company's plans to several employees by mistake. He actually phoned and asked that we delete the email without opening it. HAHAHAHAHA Needless to say, I was armed and ready for the next lie session, I mean crew meeting. |

5 seconds? Sounds rather useless to Me. But If Google wants to do that I don't care one way or the other. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

But the panic rush you feel in those first 5 seconds is quite extraordinary. me@rescam.org |

A breathalyzer controlled computer might though... Many many years ago, as a grad student, I got to be a subject in the test of a car ignition control system using a breathalyzer. You got to drink school issued booze in carefully measured quantities, blow into a tube, and then perform some cognitive and functioning tests. The researcher gave up, after he found that several students could pass the tests when they couldn't even walk, and a small but non-zero number of students failed the tests stone cold sober. He never would tell us which category any of us fitted into, but it made for interesting speculation. A buddy of mine told me he took part in a similar test program in California in the late 1960s, using street drugs plus booze. Again, no meaningful results, but they did discover some combinations that were incredibly fast at making you barf. All over the test equipment. |
