I have a quad core cpu but I cant get seti to use more than 50% of the processor. The boinc is all set up to use all 4 which it does and set to 100% time and 100% usange but when its running it processes 2 blocks @ approx 25% processor each. It is barely using the available resources but I dont know how to make it use the rest.Anyone know how to resolve this please ? Thanks Night, |

Are you using web preferences via your online account, or your local settings set in BOINC Manager? Also, if you're using the web prefs, what is the setting for % of processors (separate from % time and % usage)? |

The boinc is all set up to use all 4 which it does and set to 100% time and 100% usange but when its running it processes 2 blocks @ approx 25% processor each. If you are seeing this in Windows Task Manager, then do know that that's normal. If I understand the sentence correctly, when you look in Task Manager, any of the tasks running is only using 25% of the CPU, right? But Windows can only show a maximum of 100% with all processes added up. It won't show more than 100%. Click twice on the CPU column header in Task Manager to get all processes that use the CPU to the top. If there are now 4 processes taking 25%, then check what the processes are and if they coincide with project software. A process showing 25% of the CPU being in use on a 4 core system means that that CPU is under full load. 4x25=100 |

The way I read it, he's only got 2 running @ 25% which suggests the other two cores are idle. Hopefully he'll clarify when he posts again. |

Hi all I had 2 processes running using 25% each but it wouldnt run anymore or run additional so was not utilising the full cpu. I have managed to get it running now utilising all 4 cores at 25% total 100% usage which was actually down to the network not allowing the extra work to arrive. Ive not used seti since the old version since I didnt have a pc worthy of doing this really to be honest so didnt know it also restricts network access as well as the cpu usage.Maybe since were mainly all on broadband its not something generally you think of much now compared to dial up days but anyway its running happily now. :) Thanks for the replies guys. |

Hello same problem here, what did you do to get the 4 processors to wortk 4 u again, I ran dry 4 all 4 processors, only do CUDA now. 1-2-2009 14:28:24|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. Hello same problem here, what did you do to get the 4 processors to wortk 4 u again, I ran dry 4 all 4 processors, only do CUDA now. Your problem is that CUDA is SETI MultiBeam only, and when your system is set to run CUDA, it runs on the GPU only and not the CPU. The only way to make the other cores busy is to have a different app, such as AstroPulse, or sign up with a different project. This is a limitation with BOINC that should be addressed in the next public release. |

Hello same problem here, what did you do to get the 4 processors to wortk 4 u again, I ran dry 4 all 4 processors, only do CUDA now. Reason in red (color by me). Possible way out: change bold, i.e. attach to one ore more other projects (I run Einstein@home beside SETI) Gruß, Gundolf PS: Okay, this time OzzFan was faster :-) Computer sind nicht alles im Leben. That's not true at all. 100% on each of 4 cores It's likely that the app just isn't properly optimized for multi-core systems, or it could be that the limitation is elsewhere making a bottleneck that can't saturate all cores. |

Now check in the Processes tab... |

I think you may be misunderstanding what Ageless was saying. From what I understood from his message. But Windows can only show a maximum of 100% with all processes added up. It won't show more than 100%. Click twice on the CPU column header in Task Manager to get all processes that use the CPU to the top. It appears to me Ageless was refering to the process tab, so the next statements from Ageless there are now 4 processes taking 25%, then check what the processes are and if they coincide with project software. still seems to refer to the process tab, not the performance tab of Windows Task Manager. In either case, as even shown in the pic your provided, Windows is using no more than 100% of the cpu. Each one of the graphs in the pic you showed represent 25$ of the 100% of the cpu's on that system. Edit: repeat of what Ageless said. |

CPU Usage: 100% You're right, I guess I just don't understand because I'm at 100% wherever I look. |

Here; Edit: After you click twice on the CPU column header in Task Manager to get all processes that use the CPU to the top. You have the processes using none of the cpu at the moment at the top, you need to get the ones using the cpu to the top. |

Look again, CPU 99. I should have brought it all the way to the top, it's like fourth down. But, I'll do it again, just a moment. |

But you would need to do this with Boinc, (since that's what we're talking about) so that 4 processes are using each core, instead of one process using the 4 cores.. |

No. My point was that Windows does not display full load on a quad core by showing 25% usage. Full load is 100%, not 25%x4. That's what I was getting at. Boinc not being able to do it is another matter. |
