Too much WU caching for seti boys?

Lots of people are complaining about not getting enough WU's (my case as well). My question is this: is there a limit for the number of WU's I can download? Is it possible for 2 or 3 users to request work from seti that would last for 100 days, getting this way the WU's monopoly? If this is true, them seti boys can say goodbye to distributed WU processing. As I see it, only a very restricted number of users would get WU's, and therefore, only a very small percentage of processing power in the world would be used to process the requests. I've seen that worldwide processing power largely exceeds the needs of seti project (i've seen somewhere, that in average, seti servers only chops and delivers 3 WU's /minute, while worldwide community of PC's can process about 1200 WU's /minute. My guess is, there's a tendency to lots of peoples' PCs become inactive, due to lack of work. Anyone tell me if I'm wrong. And unless I'm mistaken (I surely hope so) even with other projects going on (cancer cure findind, blackhole evaporation, etc), they still suffer the same problem from seti project, which is not sending enough input to WU's fanatics that we all are (no offense). :) |

The project is limited to 50 WUs per host per day. |

I certainly don't see any sign of lack of wu's to munch on. Several computers at work, some have variable speed fans that indicate how much the cpus are working and thus if it has a wu to work on... pretty much 100% active 100% of the time. Where do you get your data? |

If you are looking to the "Work" tab, you will see you have a report deadline. This deadline is set normally at 2 weeks from the date you downloaded the WU. Once the deadline is past, the processing of WU's will not generate any credits. When choosing your settings in the preferences, you have to take this into account. Greetings from Belgium. |

Thank guys. No monopoly then. :) But I'm afraid that BOINC server is not cooperating with my PC. For days I've waited to get a WU, and for days it keeps teeling me 'no work from project'. BTW, the project i'm attached to is: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu, which is the url that came along with my boinc account subscription. Is this correct? Probably this may very well be the reason why I'm not getting any WU's, (however, a project is detected, and comunnication with server is established). Help! :) |

No, you have set it up right. They're just genuinely out of WUs atm :( |

Can anyone point out other projects besides SETI? I read somewhere that there is a cancer cure finding project, and another searching for blackhole evaporation (although people are saying that this last project is not sending any WU's at all). Just trying to keep my PC busy. :) |

That project is just launching and getting itself up & running like this one. However, at the moment, it is down also. Kinda odd that both projects are down for maintenance. I have enough work locally until late tomorrow. Predictor is a version a version or two behind S@H, but running well otherwise. |

Strangely enough, I was not surprised to know that other projects were down as well. Damn! Earth is getting hotter, but my PC is getting colder. :) WE WANT WU's! WE WANT WU's! :) WU feast! |

I'm running Predictor on the current BOINC client, without any problems (I simply added the key and URL to my Seti BOINC). It does seem odd that both projects are "down for maintenance" at the same time though. |

You can also go to: http://www.aspenleaf.com/distributed/ http://www.aspenleaf.com/distributed/distrib-projects.html They have links to a lot of different distrubuted projects. |

I seem to be getting all the WU's I need. Have returned 28 results since signing up 2 days ago and have 9 WU's in cache to crunch. I'm running 24/7 and set up to upload/download WU's automatically. Had to add 2 more fans to box though, since still running SAH1 24/7 also. Mike Hooked on 2-23-2003 |
