re: 6.2.18/19.

I'm running v 6.2.18/19 on several Windows hosts - Vista, Win2K3 and XP without any problems. They are all running 32-bit versions, not 64-bit. Been running for several weeks, with lots of different projects, including SETI.

Haven't tried v6.x on any of my Linux hosts.

Hi Claggy, just got in from work, 15 hour day was a killer. Just for info, I am running 4 instances of seti and therefore processing 4 wu at once.

The X2 6000+ I have just retired was running 2 instances as well. I'll put my hands up and say I don't know why, but I'll go with Jason-gee's reply and say it's a reporting error. There are far more knowledgeable guys (and gals) on here than me, which is why I seem to be making a habit of asking for help at the moment.

regards, Gizbar.

Or he might only be running a single processor HAL in Windows. I had that problem on one of my PCs.

Check Device Manager, under Computer. It should read "APCI Multiprocessor PC". If it doesn't say that, you are only using 1 core in Windows.

Hi BroncoBob9,

I've checked Device Manager/Computer and it does say "APCI Multiprocessor PC".
I've also checked under processors and it shows four instances of "AMD Phenom(tm) 9850 Quad-Core Processor" as well.

Windows Task Manager shows 4 instances of AK_V8, and performance tab shows 4 graphs for CPU Usage History.

Apart from Seti, I haven't had much chance to use all 4 cores yet. This is my daily driver too, so I do everything on it from web, e-mail, gaming, office tasks and seti too!

regards, Gizbar.

Thanks for that, I've only got one host to worry about (XP Pro 32-bit). I'll have to read up on the best way of updating it to the latest version, without losing my cache of wu.

Install the new version over the old version and your cache will still be there. Even if you uninstall BOINC, it leaves all the workunits on your hard drive for future BOINC installations, so either way you'll still have your cache.

The only time the cache is deleted is if you manually remove BOINC and all its folders from your system or if you detach from the project first.

You could just do it the easy way and hit the No new tasks button in BOINC. Then wait for your machine to crunch through the cache. That way you don't have to worry about it. That's what I did when I upgraded.

You should be able to run the AKV8 SSE3 app with no problems. Do NOT try to run the SSSE3 or SSE4A versions as only Intel CPUs support those instruction sets.

BTW, you should have been able to run SSE3 on the X2 as well, I do on my 4600.

Thanks RandyC. I got my info from CPUz version 1.47 which states SSE3 and SSE4A in the instruction set. I know it doesn't run the SSSE3 instruction set. From my previous posters, I was running the SSE2 opti app as I was told somewhere on here in the distant past that it would be quicker than the AMD SSE3, whether rightly or wrongly. Is there a problem with CPUz then? It seems to identify the rest of the cpu correctly including cache, speed, etc...

Regards, Gizbar.

Thank you Gizbar. I think you just resolved my issue.

Morning everybody, 4 hours sleep and up to get ready for work again.

@Joker - No I haven't turned to the dark side yet ;-) Pure of Seti Spirit I am !

@Ozzfan and leaps-from-shadows - Thanks for the advice on upgrading Boinc version. Not gonna get a chance to look at this until at least tonight, it's 8.20am here in the UK and I'm already late for work!

@Uli - Not sure what problem I've helped you with, but I'm glad I've managed to ask the right questions to help your problem too.

Many thanks for all the replies. Like I said, there are many people on here with a great deal of knowledge, and I'm very grateful for the help..

regards, Gizbar.
