Kids have to learn at an early age not to be cruel to animals and sometimes they learn the hard way :D

Pet missing since '95 returned to owners

November 12, 2008

SANTA ROSA – A Santa Rosa couple recently had an unexpected reunion with an old housemate: their pet cat who went missing 13 years ago.

George, who was last seen by Melinda Merman and Frank Walburg in 1995, was turned in to an animal hospital after the manager of a mobile home park trapped the sickly feline. A microchip implanted in George allowed him to be traced back to his owners.

Merman said that after George went missing, she visited animal shelters and wrote to veterinarians in search of the gray cat, who weighs less than half of what he did in 1995. But Merman and Walburg said the cat is eating well and displaying some of his old behavior, such as jumping at a flickering light on the wall.

Living in the foreclosure capital of the US, not just people are displaced, but animals too. Our shelters here are full. If I wouldn't be over the limit already, I would run down there and find me a purebread Shepard or Australian Sheep Dog. Yes I have the room for him/her to get the required exercise.

The Victor Valley area of California has a good number of houses that have been foreclosed on, plus new homes for sale in Hesperia CA too and I found a nice house that in the last two days has appeared on the market in the Adelanto area of the valley, It's got lots of company, As the glut has returned once again. I'd take in another Cat, But I have My hands full with one Cat, So I'm stuck.

Lol, I got two kitties and four doggies. They are independent spirits. I was raised with alot of animals, so maybe taking care of all of them comes easier to me.

Joker, I know in my heart, that should you see a stray hungry kitty, you would give him/her a home. Baby may not be happy at first, but will enjoy the companionship eventually.

I would hope if you want a shelter animal you wouldn't be too picky requiring it to be a purebred. Rejecting mutts makes baby Jesus cry.

Baby has been dead for a long time(1988-1999) as I had to have Him put to sleep as I didn't have the $900 to fix His rear hips and legs as both rear legs would do the splits when walking on any type of non-carpeted floor. And I didn't like the idea either, But I had no income and was dependent on a dying older brother(I didn't know He was dying then of course), So what choice did I have? :(

purebreds are for those that can afford them, a mutt or a kitty is better to Me.

Yes, why go to a shelter if you want a purebred? Go to the kennels and the catteries and pay the price for them, including the pedigree. Only those who won't pay what the kennels and catteries charge for a purebred dog or cat with a pedigree go to an animal shelter trying to find a purebred there. Or people the breeders won't sell a puppy or a kitten to, because they find them unsuitable for having one of their puppies and/or kittens. That's what they, the breeders, do, because that's the right they have, to decide whom they want to sell their animals to.

Msattler, I have now got a lot of pics of those little kittens my bosses found and brought up, bottle feeding them. I'll have to find the best of all the pics and edit them, there are a LOT of pics to go through.

My bosses kept one of the kittens by the way, the black one, the two others moved to some of their friends.

Here are some samples, I'll post more pics when I have gone through them all and uploaded the best of them and had them cropped and resized:

Sorte (Blackie)

Tabby

Tiger

My boss got this little orphan one from the vet, which was replaced to a home where they have a cat with kittens of that age, so it will grow up with them there:

Furball

The reason I mentioned purebreads is because the article stressed, that there many at the shelters and the various rescue organisations can't take them in.

All my current animals are mutts and rescues.
