Message 794321 - Posted: 7 Aug 2008, 22:11:38 UTC

Towards the end of the afternoon yesterday we put in a new scheduler to fix a bug with "anonymous platforms" and the way they handle Astropulse workunits. This is working fine as far as I know, but at first there were some brief issues with uploads in general (human error when installing new scheduler).

Today got our new NAS machine into the closet. We're close to removing the old NetApp filer, which still works great after so many years, but the drives are too small and we can't afford support on this system, and buying new replacement drives is prohibilitively expensive. Plus the thing is just physically huge - a whole rack taking up a third of our closet for only 3 TB raw space. We're replacing it with a 3U system that will ultimately have about 7 TB raw space. Getting that into the closet meant I was able to fire up another server-to-be today in our prep lab and get that configured.

Traffic-wise we're still trying to get a feel for our demand and our bottlenecks. Eric wrote a script that is busy deleting antique workunits/results that exist on disk but not in the database (not sure why the antique deleter built into BOINC isn't working...). This will clear up additional much needed room but this is pretty much all we can do short of getting a whole new workunit storage server.

Looks like web code was updated just now, breaking a thing or two. I think Dave's addressing that stuff. I've been mostly catching up on several behind-the-scenes programming projects today.

Yep, noticed that. The website and forums now have a slightly different 'look' (Firefox 1.5).

Keep with the hackings,

Regards,
Martin

NB: Special note for the positive (good) technical term "hackings" spelt with a "h". That is no comment about "black hat" stuff of "cracking" as spelt with a "c"...

The first time I saw it (on FF 2.0.0.16) I though, "Hey, I saw this in High School on a Mac 7.5..."

I'm not sure if this is a blip or burp. But I can't seem to get new units for the past couple days. I've been getting an error saying :"Sheduler request failed: HTTP file not found". Something change?

I noticed on friday I was not getting new workunits, now I also cannot send back results. Everything is idle, good for CO2.

I'm having a similar issue. I can't get new workunits and I can't upload the ones that I have finished. I keep getting the following messages:

Yah, it would be worth it to post it over there if I saw anything like this that had an answer for it. But I don't so I didn't. And anyway, the specific reason I posted it here was that the messages were telling me that the server might be down while the server status page says they aren't, except for two AP programs. I thought the disjunction might be of interest to the admins.

Can't upload ANY results, I have 20 waiting to upload, nor can I get any new tasks. Error message says internet connection OK, servers may be down. I check server status ans they all say running. Also checked my results and found about 50, some from 2 months ago, that still say credit pending. What's going on?

The servers are having problems again. The server status page simply shows if the servers are actually running, not if there's any problems with them.

You reassure me, I thought my Internet connexion was unstable.
Because I can’t upload anything, and download neither.
Who knows when the prob is going to be fixed ?

Might be Monday, depending on if anyone is in town or not this weekend.

My task folder slowly emptied over the last three days as reports were uploaded/accepted but, still, no more downloaded. Over the last 12-15 hours, the uploading stopped, too. I have some waiting, with lots of "backing off" happening.
