Hello Dear Friends!!! :]]

It's been long (too long) since I last posted here. All I can say is..I'm sorry..and that my not posting here has been on account of a fight for survival that has been grim and distracting, but not anything to do with my real fondness for so many of you. 'Cause fond of you I is, and I is what I is. :]]

In brief, I found myself down to the last four thousand dollars I had in the world. Consider that my heating bill alone during the winter months has been over $1,000/month and you can get an idea of what I was dealing with.

I may be out of trouble by June 1st, though I just don't want to count my chickens before they're hatched. But the good news is: despite manipulative prospective buyers including an Iranian carpet merchant, shady real estate agents, a condominium manager with his own contracting-renovations company and a huge conflict of interest, an aggressive condominium board of directors...

I may have managed to sell my condominium in Toronto - and at long-distance, at that!!! :]]

OOPS!! I promised not to count my chickens!...

But if my recent luck holds, it means I won't have to choose between jumping off a bridge, taking my first and last parachute lesson, giving mouth-to-mouth recussitation to a new shotgun, and having a farewell party with drugs and booze. LOL

But enough about me. Catch me up on you. Who's had a good year? Anybody get married or have children? Who's managed to do something good for themselves or others?

Give me the news! I'll be glad to hear from each and every one of you!

Big Hugz,

Beets

Hi Beets, welcome home!

And if I may add my preferred option: may you be shot by a jealous lover on your 114th birthday. ;)

Heyas!

I really liked your baseball story. Good stuff! It made reading the forum a treat for me today.

Now that I have you here.. I want you to know I had shawarma last summer. In fact, I ate two of them back-to-back! I had to lock in that yummy taste. :]]

Heyas Kenzie!

Good suggestion, that one. I'll add, may I be shot "in flagrante delicto" by a jealous lover.

Heyas Cody!

If I make that condo sale, I'll have enough money to buy a new subscription to the comic sydicates. In that case... :]]

We still don't have anyone in my little burgh to make shawarma. I should contact the immigration office and tell them they need more Lebanese in the maritimes! ;]

Enjoy your dinner! Say Hi to Lady J for me, willya? Thanks!

Beets, I'm of Middle-Eastern heritage. However, many dishes have names that may vary from region to region. Some dishes may be unique to certain areas. Having said that, I am not familiar with the term 'shawarma', could you describe or explain this particular dish? Perhaps I know it by another name.

Sure! :]]

It's a wonderful pita sandwich stuffed with delicious meat (mostly pork and beef that's roasted on a vertical spit that turns next to some heated burner plates that BBQs the meat. The edges are shaved off with a knife and put into the sandwich. It's put into the pita with some vegetables (lettuce, tomato etc) and then covered with tahini sauce and a "hot sauce" of red curry.

It's Yummy!!!

Here's a pic of a typical shawama stand (Richard knows it as "shararma").

There's lots of other food from the region that's delicious too. I'm a big fan of Baklava (filo pastry with pistchio nuts, drenched with honey), for example. Also taboulie, eggplant... Wow! I'm getting hungry just talking about this. :]]

Hi Beets. Yes, I am somewhat familiar with that sandwich, but it is mostly found at places like street vendors or at ethnic festivals. Now...if you ask me about humus, tabouli stuffed grapeleaves, kibbee, or even baklawa(baklava) I can help! Are you partial to Middle-Eastern cuisine?

Hey Big Guy!!! :]]

It's Great to hear from you!!!

OOH! I love surprises! :]]

I've got one for you, if/when you're into the torrent scene. It's a recent app that's supposed to be pretty good. It's called the "uTorrent Turbo Blaster v.2.0.3.0". Skip the free and get the Pro with a you-know-what. I haven't tried it yet because I love the DDL scene, but I hear good things about it. I got myself a copy in case I have to go back for a torrent for a file. So far, I just haven't had to.

Here's a shot of the app and its icon beside it on my computer. :]]

Enjoy!!! :]]

You betcha I love Middle-Eastern food! :]]

A great lunch for me is an appetizer of pickled beets and hot pepper, along with some tabouli wrapped in lettuce; then some humus (made with some tahina in it), some tahina, a couple of lamb shishkabobs, and lastly, several pieces of baklawa. :]]

You're lucky being Midle-Eastern in origin..mothers make the very best humus, am I right? :]]
