That's really excellent, and seems to have worked like a charm! Thanks! |

I started receiving this message as well on my PPC Mac (Dual 1.25GHZ G4). I'm running BOINC 5.10.20 on OSX 10.4.11, I havent done any updates to the system recently. And my Intel Mac is not getting this message. I also think this is a change on the Berkeley end. Ok just got home and check how my machines were doing and now my Intel Mac is doing it too... I dont run optimized apps so I dont have the app_info "problem". So I am going to wait until Matt and the rest of the Berkeley crew get the scheduler fixed since that appears to be the problem until Matt or someone announces otherwise. My machines still have plenty of workunits from other projects to work on. Happy crunching everyone!! Doing my small part for scientific research |

Mtnmanvt said thanar(ious): your mac is using Rosetta for seti calculations, which is VERY wrong. You are loosing lots of processing power. You should completelly erase your BOINC folder and do a fresh BOINC install. Is it possible for a computer to use one project for another project's calculations? If so, how could this happen? As far as I can see, Mtnmanvt's computer isn't attached to Rosetta. Am I missing something? |

Mtnmanvt said Rosetta is also a mode on Intel Macs that allows you to run PPC apps. It is only needed if the application is not Universal or Intel. Rosetta is a lightweight dynamic translator for Mac OS X distributed by Apple. It enables applications compiled for the PowerPC family of processors to run on Apple systems that use Intel processors. Rosetta is based on Transitive Corporation's QuickTransit technology[1], and it is a key part of Apple's strategy for the transition of their Macintosh line from PowerPC to Intel processors as it enables pre-existing Mac OS X software to run on the new platform without modification. The name is likely a reference to the Rosetta Stone, whose discovery made it possible to comprehend and translate Egyptian hieroglyphs. Rosetta was formerly the code name for the handwriting recognition engine in the Apple Newton PDA.[1] From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosetta_(software) |

It should start up and start crunching with the optimized worker. I had to give it a little nudge with a Retry comm, but it then took off and gobbled up 8 tasks immediately to work on. We'll see how my RAC does. Dual G5 2GHz. Thanks for the app and great instructions! John |

Thanks, this worked like a charm on the three Macs (G5, Core 2 Duo, and Xeon) that I tried it on! However, given how little it contributes to my RAC, I'm not sure it's worth the effort to also do this on my old G4. Can anyone tell me how much of an improvement can I expect from the optimized client? |

The fixes above worked for me too. Thanks everyone! For those power users out there, you can avoid the Boinc Manager reinstall step to fix permissions if after you copy out the file to Library/.../../..... you login as root in a Terminal and then do a "chown boinc_master *" without the quotes. Happy Crunching!! |

Depending on the machine you can see anywhere from 25% to a 50% improvement. The first 4 tasks it got were originally expected to take 1:33 each. Two are already done, the next 2 almost. Actual time will be ~1:00 each. Nifty! Don't you run a weather station down there, arkayn? Golden Valley rings a bell. If so (or not - whatever), I run http://tiggrweather.net/ in Phoenix. John |

Don't know who runs the weather station here, but I never see a temp right at what I have. My stuff rarely agrees with stations close to me as well. But in my area the conditions can change from one block to the next, anyway. It's really strange up here. John |

Hello... I am the BOINC helper stated above, Thanar. I am sorry it took me so long to come back to the forums and have a look, but I've been busy lately. Too busy. It's the third day today that people complain about seti@home returning a "no work for your platform" error. So, I though I'd stop by... Seems the problem is due to some upgrades on the scheduler side, although I find it strange for such updates to produce such a problem. Stranger still, the problem only occurs when running the stock SETI client, which is exactly why I tried to give various solutions to people skyping me (I of course am running alex' clients all over). Hope the situation will be fixed soon, happy I'll be able to help people through Skype once again. |

Alex Kan's optimized clients are heavily optimized; both for PPC and Intel Macs. That means that they tend to use the processor more stressfully, producing more heat. For the ones of you who live in the northern hemisphere, it would be a good idea to monitor your CPU temperature if you're on a laptop, and -when necessary- select a different percentage than 100% under BOINC Manager -> Advanced -> Preferences -> Use at most x% CPU time. As a hint, I am in Greece, it's always 35+C lately, and in order to keep my MacBook's fan from running too loud, I have seti set at merely 25%. |

Update your boinc manager, they have fixed the Mac problem... |

Update your boinc manager, they have fixed the Mac problem... The site still shows 5.10.45, the 'old' version. Has it really been updated with the same version number? Thanks. John |

Running optimized, G5 Dual 2GHz, any ideas on how long it might take to see an upturn in the RAC? My stats graph is still showing a downhill run. Thanks. John |

Update your boinc manager, they have fixed the Mac problem... The problem was on the server side, not with the BOINC client, so there's no reason to have everyone update BOINC to a newer version. Sorry for the misunderstanding (on my part) above. |

You don't need to update your software, just click the update button on the manager task page. |
