Profile: John Gillett

Personal background
Over 42 years in computer service, support, and training, with the last 16 of that on the 'net designing and coding websites. Gee, long time - either I really like what I'm doing or I'm a lot more over the edge that willing to admit (probably the latter!).

Computers are the way of the future, if not even right now. Might as well stay where it's at!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
For the life of me I just can't understand those folks who think that in the entire universe we are the only life that exists. Out of the billions and billions (thank you, Carl) of stars, galaxies, etc., how can there not be others? Will they be like us? Probably not, but that doesn't mean they won't be intelligent. Friendly? Who knows? Most likely some will, some won't. Heck, we can't even all be friends with one another right here on our own planet, so there probably are some Romulans out there somewhere.

I believe trying to find other life out there is the right thing to do. Why just sit back and wait for them to find us? This is really exciting stuff, and I want to be a part of it!

Currently I run 4 different computers under 2 different operating systems with a total of 8 units working at all times (not just 'screen saver' time). Recently I upgraded one of the systems to a Quad. Hopefully that should shorten my processing time and increase my daily dumps to the server. Why? As I said - I want to be in on this!
