Hello Whiskey... Burj Dubai is going to look superb when it is finished, can't be long now!
770 meters and rising!

Yes, but photo's and video's don't do it justice. You have to see it to appreciate what a phenomenal construction it is. I just hope that they will build enough car parking spaces, something that they forget here. Many of the sky scrapers in Dubai don't have enough car parking slots for the residents and visitors.

The internet connection problem is slightly better today. Etisalat, the National ISP, are working hard to try and re-route traffic and buy bandwidth from Asia to get around the damaged Mediterranean cable but the bad news is that it will be at least three days before the cable is repaired.
This is the second time in 10 months that the same cable has been broken.

I have been trying to download this months Grand Prix magazine for two days, it's only 6MB and I just can't stay connected long enough to get it all. My connection drops out frequently.

Been there and done that and it is the pits.

Message 878839 - Posted: 24 Mar 2009, 13:21:31 UTC

I have just received a message to say that Whiskey has had a fairly serious "stroke" and needs long-term rehabilitation in England. He has given permission to the Consulate staff to discuss his case with me and I expect a telephone call tomorrow (Wednesday 25th March) so that we can talk about his case and what is needed for him.
More news some time tomorrow, then, but please do stand by to offer some sort of help if at all possible when the time comes.
This message will be copied to several more Seti@home people and please feel free to copy it on to others yourself.

Just in case people do not look in the Minicities thread to see what is happening with our good friend Whiskey I had better copy what I posted there earlier this morning:

I just finished speaking to Mohammed on the phone. He is staying in Manchester. He will let me know exactly where in the Manchester Royal Infirmary Whiskey is staying later after he visits him himself.

Mohammed thinks the weather in Manchester is cold and wet. he is obviously in the right place. The local saying is that if you cannot see the Derbyshire hills from Manchester then it is raining. If you CAN see the hills then it is going to rain.

I am sure that many of you will want to send him a "get well" card at the least and you will certainly need the precise ward to do that.

It is a hospital with the highest reputation. You can get a good idea of it from the hospital website.

From looking at the Rehabilitation Unit part of the website, I guess Whiskey will be in either Ward 30 or 32. I'll let you know.
Dr. Ganesh Subramanian is the head man for the care of stroke victims.

Now, what to get for him? Flowers? Grapes? A box of dates?
