computation also before exiting, just in case...) The last time I worked on an electrical outlet, I didn't turn off the power, But then I just had to twist the outlet around so that the outlet was right side up, Instead of being upside down like It was when I bought the house, Did anything bad happen to Me during or afterwards? Nope, I know what I'm doing as I never touched the live contacts, Electricity must be treated with due caution, In this case turning the breaker off was not needed, Besides I don't know which one controls the bathroom outlet anyway. :D The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

OK where is this Alex V8 for Windows Vista 64 Bit ver. I've read messages and did a search and still no clue |

lol. I was just curios. I've always exited BOINC before installing my optimized apps. Do Not Try This At Home... FYI: I don't exit BOINC or suspend computation to change out a crunching client... but then I'm a professional. I could tell you how, but then I'd have to [you know what I'd have to do!] you. ;-) I don't like those restarted "hybrid" crunched WUs that occur when you shutdown BOINC to switch clients. Folks monitor my hosts, I want to keep the WUs purely crunched by a single client, so not to introduce "outliers". Regards, JDWhale @Robert W Johnston - I'd give you a direct link, but IDK if you want SSE4.1 or SSSE3 version... check the "sticky" thread 2nd from top of NC forum. [edit] Still don't know which client works best with the Q9300 chip... with the limited L2 cache memory bandwith becomes a much more important factor. [/edit] |

computation also before exiting, just in case...) Over there it's absolutely fine to work on electrical bits without turning off cct bkr, 110V, if you're lucky only gives a mild tingle. 220/240V this side of the pond is a different matter. Shorting the wires together, helps finding location of cct bkr. Must admit to double checking cct bkr's were off when working on psu's that had output of upto 40kV dc @ 5A. |

jim: Hi, yeah it's a laptop, so I guess the heating issue could be the problem, guess I jus' didn't think of that aspect. Overclocking is not usually available on a laptop anyhow, so the only route to increased performance is to use an optimised application. Improving the cooling as suggested by others should be your focus. In addition to adding a fan or at least propping up the laptop for better airflow, I suggest you think about undervolting. That can significantly reduce power consumption while crunching and make marginal cooling much more effective. The nordichardware article is a good reference, though you might search the web for comments related to your specific laptop and/or CPU. My Dell D600 didn't really have any cooling problem and its fan is nearly silent even on high speed but just to reduce wear on the fan and to be more efficient I undervolted it. CPU temp before that tended to be around 55 C with the fan on high, afterwards the temp is around 43 with the fan on low (both cases while crunching S@H 24/7). Joe |

computation also before exiting, just in case...) @ Einstein, honestly i think, nothing special would happen.Maybe the optimized app. doesn't work, until the BOINC manager 'sees' the app.'s and it's info_file.That is, BOINC has to stop too, before the optimized app. is 'recognized'.Or you can't copy those files to the X:\\BOINC\\XXXXX\\setiathome.berkeley.edu dir, when the app. still runs? But i'am NO expert on computer knowledge, who is? When you have to work on an electrical system, f.i. the feed off an elec-train, a real one, in Holland there's 1500V DC(Direct Currunt)on those wires. You'de be fried, when touching them and are connected to 'earth' or mass. When you KNOW that, you can take precautions, an insulated ladder f.i., insulated tools, protective suite, etc. and still work on it . |

Therefore it was a really helpfull hint. Using the appropriate program I was able to lower the VID from 1.2875V down to 1.0375V, resulting in CPU-temps falling from 85°C to 77°C (at full load, SETI running 24/7). Thanx for that! |

But then I just had to twist the outlet around so that the outlet was right side up, Instead of being upside down like It was when I bought the house Upside down is code in most places so things dropped on the plug will hit the ground instead of the live and neutral and arcing. But thats off topic, just found one of my wu's that I paired with another quad running 2.4v and I am running AK V8 SSSE3x, here. He is stock speed and I am 3.15 but the time difference is astounding!
