Just how well prepared are you for an earthquake? Over the past couple of months Nevada has become quite active again with these quakes. A 6.0 hit Wells, Nevada in February, Reno Nevada has had a couple 4.0+ magnatude quakes hit in the last couple of weeks and this last Friday night. Nevada ranks 3rd overall in the USA for being so active with quakes.

My family and I are as prepared as we can be, and will be stocking up with more supplies this coming week on my payday. My work is well prepared, well, we have to be since everyone will be calling us when it happens. Our city is pretty well prepared as well. Now its only a matter of time.

Anyhow, share your thoughts and any idea's you have on how your prepared for an event like this, or really any event, not limited to Earthquakes.

. . . i lived in Southern California for over 25 Years - Built Structures ~ above ~ CODE - to 10.7 Richter Scale - 'Los Angeles Building & Safety' loved my work

. . . a channel-shaped connector for connecting a first building structural member to a second building structural member in conjunction with fasteners

and an anchor member to resist forces on buildings imposed by earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes and other similar cataclysmic forces . . .

< Earthquake support for structure having bottom beams

A support to provide earthquake resistance for structures, such as a mobile home, which have a long metal bottom beam on the underside of the structure,

can be provided by a system of long wooden cross beams at about right angles to the bottom beams, where the cross beams rest on at least two units of cribbing.

The cribbing can itself rest on a bottom platform, a pad, or the ground. A bottom platform can function as a shim or leveling device.

The cribbing can consist of two or more layers of elongated blocks, such as rough cut 6"×8" or 8"×8" wooden timbers. The cribbing units can be attached to themselves

and to the main beam by metal anchors and ties, and the main beam can be attached to the bottom beam of the supported structure by metal clamps . . . United States Patent 5083404

In New Zealand, we are cut right through with a fault line on the "Ring of Fire" the Faultline that rings around the Pacific ocean.

Every household in New Zealand is mostly ready for a disaster, (whether that be a Earthquake, Volcano, Flood, Avalanche.. so on...) Everyone got pamphlets preparing them....

Except only 4 NZ buildings are completely 9.0+ proof....

Parliament
Sky Tower
Wellington Museum (Te Papa)
Wellington Stadium

That preparedness show excellent anticipation.

In the UK we are totally unprepared, but, aside from some smaller fault lines, we live well away from the edge of the local Tectonic plate.

Yes! If you are on the fire chain fault lines then you are at the edge of the local plate.

One of the most famous is the Indian plate heading up and under the Asian plate. The Himalayas are the result.

NZ's fault line is more of a "slicing its way through the whole country" thing...

Out here on the Atlantic coast of the US, earthquakes are rare indeed. Major ones are even more rare.
