Probably slightly. Not sure just how much yet...

[Edit]And work is still going on - there may yet be another percent or two to be squeezed out if the pips don't come out first ;) [/Edit]

Of course He's a Giant Whale, I'm not sure of which type, If the tails from a Gray then He's not the biggest, Only a Blue is that big.

At least their not extinct, Grays are extinct in the Atlantic, Even though their still around in the northern pacific and blues, Well lets say their bigger than anything alive or extinct.

I also got My cpu a few degrees cooler and I mentioned It here.

Slightly OT as in going antarctic:

Sea Shepherd had an amzingly successful few months hunting the Japanese instead of the Japanese hunting whales. Quite an epic. The final encounter saw someone on the Japanese factory ship shoot the Sea Shepherd captain in the chest! Nasty.

Sea Shepherd Antarctic Whale Defense Campaign 2007-08

Hopefully, that has shot any return of the Japanese to industrial whaling...

Meanwhile, Greenpeace were nowhere to be seen.

Excellent group working for the new ever faster optimised code. Brilliant!

I wonder what happened to the Who? code and hype?... Was there ever any useful code released from all that skull bluster? And despite extreme patience from everyone around.

Who? Who.......
Forget about it.....we have folks working on the real deal now, and I am offline testing and beta live testing real code that works......and fast.....
You will all have a taste of it soon......looks like perhaps the first of May at the latest...this is not a promise, but that is what is being discussed.
The preparations are being made, so hang in there.....
This is no bluster folks....check Fred's graphs on my beta tests...
And the frozen Penny is running an offline test of some more new builds as we speak......
The truth is out there..........

Best Regards,
Mark.

Martin, who seems to have vanished from the boards. Although his extremely over-clocked SKT is still in the top 20, last time i checked it was 12 or 13. It seems his hype of code was for nothing, because John and Jason with the guys from Lunatics have managed to do in a few weeks what Who had been going on about for about 2 years.

As I have said before, even though I will not benefit from it, well done and a big congratulations to you guys, you've done a brilliant job so far, long may it continue!

I hope there is a present for you by then.......
But please....I must stress this.....I am not making promises here on behalf of the guys doing the real work.....I am only testing their code, not taking credit for it myself.
I will be running another live beta test in an hour or so.....stay tuned......

Hey, Fred...if you didn't see my PM, I am currently running a live beta test with a few of those % leaking out of the edges.......

I will post an updated chart in a day or so when the AR's have filled out a bit (hopefully).

F.
At the extract this morning, rev 32 had nearly all its results in two clusters, one near .01 Angle Range, and the other near .38.

The .01 region is especially favorable for detecting small performance differences, as there tends to be little scatter in CPU time, unlike the stuff above 1.1, and there is negligible fixed effect of bias by change in AR, unlike the stuff near .4.

The improvement near .01 over rev 31 is quite clear, with rev 32 CPU times a little over 97% of rev 31.

The mid angle range is harder to call, for the reasons mentioned. I'd settle for "not worse", though it is quite possible there is actual improvement comparable to that at VLAR.

Though my two zoomed plots omit a couple of results, there are none available for Angle Range greater than 1.

I just a few minutes ago started a new beta test of the latest SSE4.1 build.....
The Penny seems to like it a lot.......I hope the results are as good as they are looking to me......

First look says that the "SSE4.1 Win64 rev 32" is a bit slower than the "SSSE3 Xeon Win64 rev 32 Pre-Release" in three batches of close comparisons, all at mid Angle Range:
.438, .443, and .447.

There is also a single result in VLAR near .01, which also looks slightly slower than the SSSE3 rev 32 neighbors.

Assuming you keep the test going for a while a clearer picture will emerge, but that's the quick look on the first dozen results.

[edit to say that a closer look at an actual graph shows pretty clearly that the SSE4.1 rev 32 takes about 4% more CPU time for the results near Angle Range of .44 than the "Xeon SSSE3". It appears slower than SSSE3 Win32 rev 27 in that range on Mark's host]

That is likely, Keep in mind different machines will favour either Xeon or Non-Xeon Builds, mostly depending on a combination of Memory FSB & Cache Characteristics.

[OT]
Please folks, let's refrain from any and all Who? bashing in this thread. All are welcome as our goal is common, to increase project throughput. If any developers, Dr.Who? included, have contributions to make in reaching that goal I'm sure their efforts will be welcomed by all. We've stayed focused and well behaved, please let's keep it that way.

Regrettably, in my overzealous comments while running my "Race to the Top", I'd made comments about tracking and hunting the Skulltrail. These comments were entirely non-personal in nature and were intended only as fodder of fantasy.
[/OT]

That out of the way...

Congratulations to the Lunatics for a successful 64-bit client build and lowering the "limbo bar" once more. You guys rock!!!

JDWhale

@Martin - Thanks for the Sea Shepherd info. Real world heros out to make a real difference. Back when I was in high school, Country Joe & the Fish had a hit song with Save the Whales. (Maybe some of you remember Country Joe from Woodstock and "Give me an 'F'..." ;-)

Because we all SETI-people are hungry for the new apps..
Someone could make a speculation when the new apps would be ready for release?

BTW.
Good work!!

@Martin - Thanks for the Sea Shepherd info. Real world heros out to make a real difference...

I might have typed too soon...
