Wow, Albert, Champ, Dune and Es!!! Thanks for the welcome!

Maybe I can just sit over in that armchair in the corner here and just rest for a while. :]]

I notice you guys get busy yourselves: Champ with his job and family, Es with her children, Albert with his lady, and Dune, with just being Dune. :]]

Nice to see you back Beets..

..it's not my own kids that seem to be taking up all my time, but other people's. It's exam time and everyone is stressing out...and I spent today on a school trip to the Science Museum. It was a good day, the girls were well behaved but 50 girls on a bus can sure make a lot of noise! (my headache is slowly starting to fade). Anyway..I've just finished making a revision power point for my Year 11s. I want them to do well in their exams. I have a lovely class..and hopefully some of them will stay on to do physics at A level next year.

Off to bed now to rest up for another busy day tomorrow.

Children, children, children...they DO take a lot of care and attention, don't they? :]]

Well, get yourself a good rest!

Goodnight, Es! :]]

Hey Misfit!!!

Not only that, but I now have a safe (well storage locker) for my movies too. Just email me with your choice. :]]

I added "Khartoum" (1946) to my collection, a Charlton Heston jihad film way ahead of its time.

We had two power outages in a row, the first hit most of the town including my house, and the second one the day after hit the east and west ends of our burgh.

Power outages suck.

John McL isn't at the top of The List as of yet. Well done getting there before I did, Beets. :-)

Good to see you back Beets!!!
Black-outs are horrible....
Hope everything is returning to normal for you!

While you've been away, I have passed you in credit!
I've had my new laptop up and running for about 3 days now, giving me a slight lead over you :), still waiting for it to get a good RAC though...
I've also studied up on chess notation, seems I'm getting the hang of it now....

Have fun!!!
Luke.

Heheh. It's not often that I get there first, Scytheman! :]]

But you're right of course; it's all about who's where on the list. ;]

"Appointment in Samarra"
(as retold by W. Somerset Maugham [1933])

The speaker is Death:

There was a merchant in Bagdad who sent his servant to market to buy provisions and in a little while the servant came back, white and trembling, and said, "Master, just now when I was in the marketplace I was jostled by a woman in the crowd and when I turned I saw that it was Death that jostled me. She looked at me and made a threatening gesture! Now, lend me your horse, and I will ride away from this city and avoid my fate. I will go to Samarra and there Death will not find me." The merchant lent him his horse, and the servant mounted it, and he dug his spurs in its flanks, and as fast as the horse could gallop, he went.

Then the merchant went down to the marketplace and he saw me standing in the crowd and he came to me and said, "Why did you make a threating getsture to my servant when you saw him this morning?"

"That was not a threatening gesture", I said, "It was only a start of surprise. I was astonished to see him in Bagdad, for I have an appointment with him tonight in Samarra."

What's needed to forstall death or grant eternal life is more prayer!!!

Which brings me to this idea of a new use for distributed computing...

In Tibet, the Bon religion encourages the use of prayer wheels or "mani" as a form of prayer. This spinning of the wheels with the mantras on them (like "Om Mani Padme Hum") is supposed to do a great deal to correct bad Karma.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prayer_wheel

So my new idea for distributed computing is: Distributed Prayer

There are all kinds of religions that make use of repeated prayer to further mankind in spirit. Why not have computers do it and see if it works?

What do you think? :]]

Well..when it's your time....no amount of praying is gonna forestall my visit. But you are welcome to propose the idea to BOINC and see what they think...lol

I was into the "Late Night Sillies", being fanciful with that last night, but you never know...

Do computer's have "souls"? They seem to have "faith" in the sense that once programmed they never deviate from Code.

Would distributed computing, Prayer@home, be as big a hit with a whole large group of religious people, the way Seti@home is with people searching for aliens?

Would massive amounts of prayer help mankind? Bring us closer in our search for God?

You never know. I may contact Boinc after all. :]]

Good morning everyone!!!

May you have a good day today! :]]

GOD BLESS!!!
