OK folks...what do you think about the new layout?

Personally...not impressed, I prefer the old layout.

I hate the new PM inbox to.

It looks like a rip-off of some google or yahoo groups idea of Vista gone wrong.


Whatever happened to a subject list?

I used to be able to just look down a list of subjects / topics / headers and select what I wanted to read but now have to read everything.


If I want to click off items for deletion I now have to scroll post by post (meaning the server will probably require far more disk space for undeleted but read posts as I can't be bothered to scroll on forever...)

It also means (along with the extra button scripts) that I can no longer log in off my mobile phone or PDA to join in these forums whilst mobile....

(One reason I always liked the SETI forums is because they were simple and functional..)


What spured the latest round of forum 'look' updates? (As far as I can tell they actually don't add any greater functionality... Though I might be wrong??)

You should not have to manually mark a message as 'read'. To be able (for whatever reason?} to mark as it as unread it OK.....but when you read it, you have read it, haven't you now?

Because all messages are now served on / as one page the server no longer knows which individual message you have read.

Hence it no longer automatically marks individual messages read!

(It can only mark all messages read or (as it does now) mark nothing.)

Traditional logic has been broken - Simplicity of function lost :o(

The new layout needs to be thrown out with the trash. It is horrible.

Umm..not to point out the obvious....but what about a " Return to Forums " button. Ya know...one that will take you back where you WERE before you went into the PM section???

I was trying to be polite. And unlike Vista...(A/C), at least it does not bring the system to it's knees.

Yep. I have one of those. But if I use it...then nothing would show up as read....lol

Hell...even the lowly little Calm Chaos forums has it set up to where you just click a link to go back to the forums.

By and large it's a really nice addition to the forums. Just a few tweaks would make it better. Like the addition of a 'sent' box. And I think that messages should auto-register as having been read, rather than having to manually mark them as such.
And the 'private message' note on the pages should be highlighted like it used to when you have unread messages.

I think you are right..but I much preferred the list like it was before...it was much easier to see what the posts were and who they were from and find old ones that you wanted to read again and again.

And by the way, I just noticed that the 'unread' total is now being reset to '0' after you go into your inbox. Must have just been changed in the last few hours, I think.
