I'm posting this without my sig because I want it to stand.....

I had emailed kenzieB about the possibility of coming back to the boards...... She won't be back. I don't know who bears responsibility for this... but whoever it is, it should end NOW! And it should end before we loose another valuable cruncher, & a donater to SETI!

Kenzie Donated to the cause. She's not a millionaire! It didn't help her. All we needed to do was show some compassion for a fellow poster. We failed miserably.

[*]Here's a copy of her email recieved 8/22

Hiya

I just wanted to let you know what's been going on, so here goes:

Got up yesterday (Tuesday) still felt bad about the day before so I decided to finally pull the plug. Detached from all my BOINC projects and uninstalled the software.

Funny part: got an email Tuesday afternoon telling me that my 'posting privileges have been suspended' for two weeks. Well, that makes quitting easier...eliminates any temptation to post.

I think that it is just as well this way. I never did understand the place, nor more than a few of the people there, and for damn sure not many understood me. Kind of a round peg, square hole type of thing I guess.

Don't be sad.

Good-bye

[*]Here's a copy from her email dealing with coming back. Her last email just recieved 9/5 .....

As for coming back to SETI…that’s not gonna happen. Life has been much too pleasant and stress-free without it.

Sorry, but the place is just a little too hostile for me. And I’m way too sensitive.

Don't blame her. That's why my posting is down quite a bit. I don't have to put up with any BS. I'm a volunteer, not a low level employee. I don't put up with that in my personal/professional life so I surely don't/won't put up with it here.

I say, just ignore the morons. Works for me :)

I didn't fail her. In fact, hardly anyone here did. Well, except maybe you. Did you fail her, Dune?

You can thank those that use the red x. Man, they use it for everything. Kinda backfired this time, eh?

The PM Dune quotes gives it, in a very mild form, the way it is.

Hopefully this sort of hostility will not result in more resignations?

That could be many individuals or few using the RED X in whatever way you seem convinced is improper...Is it always wrong to use it?...Don't those in charge have some discretion to act upon or ignore such messages?

When we lose good people, Rush, it's cause for some sadness. People who liked her (I include myself in this group) will miss her. Smart know-it-all comments, like this post of yours, reveal some lack of normal empathy, imho. :(

You didn't fail her? Well, you didn't help her any, either.

So what are you doing on this thread anyways, in which her friends regret her leaving? Oh let me guess: you're giving your opinion. Well good for you.

Haven’t been around long enough to have much of an opine, ‘cept to say that these sorts of places don’t often attract women.

When they do show up we all ought to make them feel welcome. They bring a certain civilizing influence with ‘em. IMHO.

True. Now, try using a little context, and see if you can figure out which one it is?

...Is it always wrong to use it?...Don't those in charge have some discretion to act upon or ignore such messages?

If one is trying to get someone else's post modded, yes, that's likely wrong unless the post in question contains overt threats or porn.

"Those in charge," have often shown remarkable consistency in removing posts at the first sign of complaints, based solely on said complaints, not said post's compliance with the rules. In other words, their discretion has failed them.

I can't really dumb it down any more for you, Dan.

Beets

Since when have you known Rush exude empathy.

Whatever is posted he will find comments to give a 180 degree opposite view. It's him?

You are entitled to your opinion of me, regardless of how erroneous it is.

You didn't fail her? Well, you didn't help her any, either.

Ummmm, I have railed against the stupid x and the subjective rules since day one. Had I been successful, she would not have been banned. You may not choose to call that help. I do,

So what are you doing on this thread anyways, in which her friends regret her leaving?

Dune impugned everyone with his use of the term "we." I didn't fail her, neither did you. "We" didn't fail her.

Oh let me guess: you're giving your opinion. Well good for you.

Yeah, Beets, get how that works? I'm giving my opinion just as you did. Well, good for you.

Edit: Notice Beets, her quote, posted previously: "Life has been much too pleasant and stress-free without it." If she's happier not being here, then you should be happy that she is not here.

Insult well taken...

So why are you complaining here?...If you have problems with the way the RED X is handled by those in charge of the boards...Why not take your complaints to a higher authority?...

This board is meant for humans...to expect logical behavior when utilizing the RED X from such a large collective of this species is illogical.

You know as well as I that it is worthless.

This board is meant for humans...to expect logical behavior when utilizing the RED X from such a large collective of this species is illogical.

Which is another good reason for getting rid of it--and ignoring all the emails from those that would use it.
