Message 553574 - Posted: 25 Apr 2007, 21:49:44 UTC

I overheard, during the whole Imus debacle, some reporter or talk show host commenting that within a week or two we'd be on to discussing something else. The events at Virginia Tech certainly shifted attention. How much are people discussing Imus now?

(P.S. - one of the places I applied to for a professor position was VT. By the time I'd applied, though, they'd already interviewed some people and soon after had made their hiring decision.)

I wouldn't have started until next fall, anyway, had I interviewed there and been offered the position.

The Imus dea was completely out of the news up until yesterday when a couple of " shock jocks " in New York got suspended. Then it was brought up again.

Imus was called a "shock jock" by so many of his critics. What hypocrisy! That term is offensive and vaguely sexual, but none of those complainers are getting fired. ;)

My best guess it that some Big players in the news industry wanted IMUS out!! for political reasons.

But he'd been around, what ... 20 or 30 years?
So, why now, within your guess framework?

A better guess is that the so called public outcry took place as a result of the culture the American left has created before anyone could realize it was being used to hang 'one of their own'. By this time this kind of unhealthy class/race/group warfare culture has taken root and developed a life of its own.

From what is stated in the news his program was a sounding board for politcal politians who are against the current politcal machine. To rid of this format would put an end opposition.

Ummm ... McCain was to join him for a show that was coming up not long afterwards.
McCain may have been seen as slightly opposition in 2000, but he is far from being viewed that way now.
