Forbidden Planet: still definitively good after 50 years, with groundbreaking special effects and an intelligent story (based loosely on plot elements from The Tempest.) The Captain is played by Leslie Nielsen, showing that he can act in serious rôles too.

As I understand it, Leslie Nielsen started his acting career in serious dramatic roles. It wasn't until he did a guest appearance on M*A*S*H (as a Colonel who Hawkeye and Trapper gradually convince is losing his mind) that he started to turn more and more to comedic roles.

I think I'll give Atomic Submarine a try. I've never seen that one before.

I've been looking for sci-fi/horror movies that are a little like Them.

Fiend Without A Face. I'm sure that was made in the late 50's.

That's an interesting list. Lots of films I haven't seen. I'd like to mention in particular:

Forbidden Planet: still definitively good after 50 years, with groundbreaking special effects and an intelligent story (based loosely on plot elements from The Tempest.) The Captain is played by Leslie Nielsen, showing that he can act in serious rôles too.

Plan 9 from Outer Space: possibly the worst film ever, in any genre - inspirationally bad.

I haven't seen Plan 9 From Outer Space, but it can not be as bad as Just Imagine filmed in 1930 set in 1980. (I watched it in 1980 on its 50th anniversary during an SF film marathon).

We should have a 1950s movie in honor of DOgbytes. One he would like.
Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes.
