For all who may not be aware... I'm not a member of the group, but having said that, if censorship is going on in the group, that is so wrong. All positions, whether we personally agree with it or not, should be shared and heard. That is democracy, not dictorship. If that is not the case, then Big Brother rules, and that is not a situation I'm comfortable with. |

I know that this is not a place for Predictor`s troubles. The issue is that Predictor crunchers should know what`s going on. Their board cannot be used for this discussion, because anyone starting it is getting ip-banned, his accout deleted, and his crunched credits stolen by Predictor`s admin, DLB. I am so sick of this topic, but let me correct a couple of 'inaccuracies' here. 1.) Yes, it's true that discussion on the 'Wate Question', pro or con, will in all likelyhood draw you a posting suspension. I drew a 60 dayer, and I was defending the project's right to ban anyone, for any reason they saw fit to, for the simple reason that a forum hosted on a private server is not a democracy. However deleting the accounts (and the ban bypassing sub-accounts and team accounts) was reserved for the most egregious 'crusaders', contrary to 'popular' belief. 2.) In the case of a private server, you have no reasonable expection of freedom of speech, regardless of the fact it may be made available to the general public for participation. An analogy here is a political candidate (or organization) has no right to post campaign literature on private property without the owners permission, regardless of the fact the candidate (or organization) does have the free speech right to get their 'word' out. 3.) A Free Speech issue would be if you had set up a web site/forum to voice your opinion on the matter in which PAH had handled the situation and the following protests in their fora, and the Scripps Institute subsequently 'pressured' your web host or ISP to shut down the site. As long as your material was not legally abusive, threatening, or libelous, then you have a free speech issue in a democracy. 4.) Don't even try to play the 'libel' card here. The 'crusaders' played that one first with their ad-hominem attacks on David (and others) when he didn't aquiesce to their demands or POV immediately. The one thing which is certain; this not the place for this discussion to continue. Regards, Alinator |

Whilst I agree that this thread belongs in the Cafe rather than here I must correct one of your points. I created an account at Predictor and did not make any message board postings. I did join the "Banned for Life" team which stated it's aims as fighting censorship. My account at Predictor has aparantly been deleted. |

Champ, as the situation here at SETI@Home will rival this, and since you are a mod here, you might want to be careful admitting what you did there. ;) Just watching out for you, friend. Auf wierdersehen. Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes. |

Yes, I suppose I over generalized about the 'protest' team situation. As I said when the flap was going on originally, I didn't think PAH management handled the whole affair very well, and basically made a pretty minor event into a major PR disaster. Whacking people's accounts due to guilt by association for choosing to join a protest team was just one of a number of bad decisions they made. Alinator |

I have been avoiding Predictor because I have thought it has had very long workunits. Now I have another reason to avoid Predictor. Update: I confused "ClimatePrediction" with "Predictor" on workunit length. However the same applies. I would still avoid "Predictor" as long as it has a corrupt administration. |
