I'm interested in other peoples RAC's with dual cores. I've posted a couple of times about my results that I think are strange and also noticed someone saying they were getting a consistent 1200+ with dual cores.\\ What would you recon the RAC would be from one of your Quad core Kentsfields running at stock speed, but using an enhanced client? I did find one in the top computers list that appeared to be running at stock speed with the 1.41 Chicken core 2 app and was at about 2600 RAC. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Well, I've observed over the last few months that the best way to maximise credit with the processors one has at one's disposal is to give all AMD processors to Einstein, and all Intels to SETI, regardless of whether running under Windows or Linux. I'm not sure which project would be best for powerpcs. Unfortunately Einstein is still down at the moment and anyway only has another month to run. |

I'm not sure which project would be best for powerpcs. It's not just AMD's that do better on Einstein, it's all cpu's with low amounts of L2 cache. My Celery, now moved on to needy pennyless student, also did better hour for hour on Einstein than Seti. |

Expect this to change - new prerelease versions developed at lunatics.at show substantial improvements on low-cache hosts, much more than on larger-cache ones (up to 50% improvement on low-cache, around 15-25 for larger cache), all vs. the released 2.0B versions. Also, AMD64 hosts are really very quick with these new revisions..even more so than using 2.0B. I haven't tried any CS/hour charts yet, but I'm hoping Tony will update his once they (new apps) get released :o) HTH, Simon. Donate to SETI@Home via PayPal! Optimized SETI@Home apps + Information |

Joe Segur has come up with some new magic lately, I'm compiling a prerelease pack as I'm posting this - head on over to lunatics.at to grab it in a few hours :o) On a related note, I'm expecting my PD 805 which hovered around 1350 RAC with 2.0B to top 1500 or so with the new app revisions, possibly even more. The A64 3500+ did around 540-570, should go close to 700. Largest improvement will be on a Prescott/Nocona Xeon with HT, 1MB cache (so ~512KB for each HT "core") - almost 50% quicker crunch times across the board...no idea where it will end up, used to be around 480-520 with 2.0B. Also, it seems that on Merom mobile Core 2 systems, the new app revisions finally beat 1.41, which is sort of a milestone :o) Regards, Simon. Donate to SETI@Home via PayPal! Joe Segur has come up with some new magic lately, I'm compiling a prerelease pack as I'm posting this - head on over to lunatics.at to grab it in a few hours :o) I have a slightly older Prescott Xeon rig (FSB 533, L2 512Kb) with a current RAC of ~500 (running WUs on 3 cores - 2 real, 1 HT). This development looks interesting to me, and should improve it's output. But, I am currently running the SaH_5.15_KWSN_SSE2_Ben_Joe_2.0_B client. I also have dual P3 Coppermine capable of SSE. Will there be a version for these rigs available as well? More importantly, where is Joe Segur's URL? It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

Hi John, Joe Segur, along with Ben Herndon, Alex Kan and Eric Korpela (though Eric has a very busy schedule) are active at http://lunatics.at. The new apps will undergo further testing and be released in the space of the next few weeks. Right now, access to them is restricted to members of the pre-release testing and development group, but you won't have to wait too long :o) Regards, Simon. Donate to SETI@Home via PayPal! Hi John, Anxiously awaiting the new clients here! You and the coding crew's work is very much appreciated! My dual core clients, all desktops substantially overclocked with good memory, using Simon's app across the board.- (2) E6600's @ 3300 mhz one is at 2180 RAC, the other 1800, should rise to the same level (1) E6400 @3300 mhz 1940 RAC (1) E6300 @3300 mhz 2000 RAC, has had weird hdd issues lately, and has dropped off, but on the way back up (2) 920/30D's @4000 mhz 1300/1400 RAC (1) Core Duo 2.0Ghz laptop, 1000 RAC, has dropped a bit due to the occasional Pirates work received Team Starfire World BOINC IRC- irc//irc.teamstarfire.net:6667/team_starfire |

Hi Simon, Could you confirm whether or not I'm running the latest client/apps on my PD? And also do I understand that there will shortly be updates? I was getting an RAC of 1100+ but it got shut down for a fortnight so it's havimng to climb back up again. Best regards Chris |

You're running the latest app there, but obviously got hit by the work shortage harder than average. Yes, new revisions will be released in the next few weeks, which should offer further improvement. There's a sticky thread called "New optimized apps" where new revisions will always be announced. HTH, Simon. Donate to SETI@Home via PayPal! Optimized SETI@Home apps + Information |
