Hi Jim, and Ice ...

Yes I need a wake up call to stop me returning to the sack. Unfortunately I have a quarter's VAT Return to do and send today (no sales), so I need to stay awake.

I think another large coffee, a large plate of cold black pudding and a clip around the head with a rolled up newspaper is needed.

Not fair. I suggested toast, but I haven't had any yet.

Ha ha! I've just got two out of the toaster, one in my mouth, two more on the go. Kettle boiling ready for another cuppa, then back to getting the bed together (had a new bed delivered this morning - one of the drawers is stuck)

Are the macaques still there?

Chris, this are great, you should put these in a separate thread. If you do I'll add a pic of one of these sitting on my head :)

Not really worth it, I had the camera on the wrong setting as you can see. The foreground/subject in all of them is out of focus. One of them used my back as a springboard to jump from a rock onto the roof of a car. We didn't get a pic though.

Signs are up saying £500 fine if you feed them, but a lot of people did. The one on the wing mirror was being given peanuts from a spanish rock tour driver! There are also a handfull of wild goats there on the slopes and a colony of feral cats which we saw. Interestingly the local museum in the town says that hedgehogs are an endangered species on the rock.

A little bit of England in the sun, been twice before and like it there. We stayed in an apartment at Europa Point at the far end of the rock from the main town. Here is a view from Google earth.

And here is the same view from the other direction looking from the balcony.

Wild Chris ... must visit one day!

We stayed right in the middle of the town, It was a bit expensive, but we treated ourselves just for the two nights. We had come down by motorcycle all the way from the north coast of Spain, and after our stay in Gibraltar we were about to go all the way back, by another route of course.

For most people 2 or 3 days is enough. The rock is only 6 miles long by 2 miles wide, so there is a limit on what you can do. However, there is a botanical gardens there in town, plus a small zoo, which the average tourist never gets told about.

Just over the border in spain we went to a very nice chinese restaurant, we gorged ourselves on drink and food at £12 a head. Would have been 3 times that in UK. Petrol is 60p a litre, half that in the UK, and 20 fags are 95p, yes 95p!!! A litre of gin is £2.99. UK Papers are printed in Spain and cost about 60p each. Beer is £2.40 pint only a bit cheaper than UK.

I love the place, but as 1 bedroom apartments with a view are £1/4m plus I cant afford to retire there, much as I would like too.

[edit] As Gib is not in the EEC, you can only take back 200 fags and a litre of spirits through customs. :-((

When i'm on vacation I don't want to do...I just want to be.

Well so did I. But one of the friends we met up with out there is a Warrant Officer in the Navy, with a keep fit thingy. He insisted that he and I walk up to the very top of the rock from sea level. Well we did, but my legs are still aching even now!!! I said we'll take the cable car back down, but at £8 a trip I thought sod it, nearly crippled myself! Mind you what a view from the top, north africa is so close on a clear day you could almost touch it.

Reminds me of when I grew up in the Channel Islands, Jersey to be precise!

The island was 42 square miles, and the 24/7/365 residents needed to get off the island at least once per year. We went to Cornwall, way back in the mid to late 1950s.
