Hannity and Colmes has one of the religeous leaders from the Baptist church that wanted to protest at the funerla for the Amish girls, but they deferred because they were offered air time to talk about their cause.

What a bunch of hacks. This woman is WAY out there.

::edit:: Its on Fox.

Jeffrey....there was plenty in that post to respond to that was NOT meaningless.

Maybe I was a little too harsh...

And what happens if a westerner in a Muslim country happens to mention to a local that he/she is an atheist ?

There are, and have been, plenty of Christians and Atheists living quite happily in that part of the world... And nobody is trying to convert or kill them, they just aren't permitted to enter the Holy Temples...

Jeffrey ? Ask God if he had his back turned during [snip]

There's too much tendency to attribute to God the evils that man does of his own free will.

Thank you, Jeffery. I knew you had a better response than the one you posted. lol

I'm a little surprised no one has commented on what I said to Chuck regarding "proof."

I would have commented, but Chuck and i went a few rounds when I first started posting in the forums.

From what I can recall, Chuck feels that if science has presented no evidence for something, then it doesn't exist. If science can't show that it's there, then there is no proof at all.

I know Chuck will correct me if i am mistaken, and I fully expect him to.

Chuck's posting has been a little sporadic lately, but rest assured, Sarge, when he reads your post, it's very likely he will respond so that his position is known.

Well, the post was not just meant for Chuck. It would be interesting to know if I made my point clearly, whether others agree or disagree, learned something, whatever ... .

If you really think about it 72 virgins is not a very good deal. I mean I would probably use up my virgins in the first few weeks. What about the rest of eternity? Thats an awful long time!

I tend to stay away from discussions of that sort. They have a tendancy to remind me how uneducated I am....lol

Qur'an 98:5
And they have been commanded no more than this: To worship Allah, offering Him sincere devotion, being true (in faith); to establish regular prayer; and to practise regular charity; and that is the Religion Right and Straight.

Qur'an 107:1-7
Seest thou one who denies the Judgment (to come)? Then such is the (man) who repulses the orphan (with harshness), And encourages not the feeding of the indigent. So woe to the worshippers Who are neglectful of their prayers, Those who (want but) to be seen (of men), But refuse (to supply) (even) neighbourly needs.

My God not only likes 'charity', but He requires it... ;)

From half a millennia earlier, the book of James has several similar statements. I believe that James 2:26 says it most succinctly, "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."

So you do understand your Holy Books... Which makes me wonder why you put forth so much effort in excusing oppression, persecution, and corruption... ;)

Jews, Christians and Muslims all state that they have a very common tradition.

Put simply, for Jews (as I understand it), they do not believe the Messiah has come yet. Furthermore, the "approach" (for lack of a better word) of the Messiah they expect may be quite different from the approach of Jesus as Christians see it. I doubt they accept Mohammed as a prophet, or any of the writings of the New Testament.

Christians do not accept Mohammed as a prophet.

According to my Muslim friends, they do not believe Jesus was the son of God, nor that he was the Messiah. They do believe he is currently with God and in the end-times will battle and defeat the anti-Christ. I am not clear on their concept of the anti-Christ nor whether, upon Jesus' victory over him, whether Jesus becomes the messian at that point in time.

Your koran doesn't offer the gift of eternal life, either. You'd just believe any malarkey that's written down by anyone and presented as ancient and true in your organized religion. You believe that by acting in some arbitrary way, some soecial spark in you will survive death, when there is no evidence at all to support this belief. You believe it, because you would be scared shitless at the alternative. I will bet that you can't even conceive of the alternative. Can you imagine that when you die, Jeffo, you are gone for good, your sight shuts down, your hearing shuts down, your small, touch and tast shut down too, and you can no longer move? You are in darkness that numbs your thinking even more, and more, and you slip into unconsciousness, never ever to awake again? Can you imagine that, or are you too frightened of reality?

You should be able to imagine that. It is the same place you were in the year 1104. or 247. or 3475 BC. or the KT boundary. or where you were when the big bang occured. You didn't exist. You will go to that same non-existence. Why invent all kinds of fantasies that suddenly you're called into existence, but will somehow, despite previous evidence, go on existing now forever because you like it that way?

I know I'm utterly wasting my time with an uneducated and brainwashed dupe here. But I hope that others may get some clues from what I've demonstrated above.

While we're on the subject of recommended reading, jeffrey, how about those proofs YOU asked me for?

"Oasis in Space" proves how the universe, the solar system, earth, and life leading to humans evolved without the need of a god.
"Cosmos" does the same thing.
"The Demon Haunted World" demonstrates how people can act without thinking about things at all. Basically the religious and the credulent. Or. as PT Barnum would have called them "the Sucker" born every minute.

I think that pretty much sums it all up right there. Nice post Chuck. I totally agree with you.
To add to what Chuck said a little bit. All you are is a bunch of atoms arranged in a certain way. You came into existence when these atoms arranged themselves and when the atoms wear down you will cease to exist. You are nothing more. Religion was created out of a psychological need. We as humans have a need to feel part of something bigger than ourselves. For me that is SETI but for most people it seems to be religion. We created religion cuz we are all scared of the future. Just look at astrology. Most newspapers have a astrology section but no astronomy section. We also dont want to think that this is all we are and religion is there again to help comfort us. We also created supernatural beings to explain natural events that we dont have any control over and dont understand. In older times it was weather and such. Now it is where we come from and what happens to us when we die.
