I saw on AnandTech (good friends of ours) a call for an Anti-Strike. Good idea IMO.

The strike ended on Sunday. It is over. However, not everyone was satisfied with the response to their concerns and have chosen not to return to the project at this time.

Thanks to the internet police (Tony), I can say that Earth will be better prepared while it's landmasses are partially submerged due to global warming, and a huge gravitational wave strikes it, all the while vaccinating the populus against an airborne vector strain of Ebola-Zaire. Instead of shortening my CPU's life with S@H, I have now found two projects more worthy of running up my electric bill, and making me buy a computer ahead of schedule.

Long live the (forever) strike!!!

I personally increased my seti resource share during the strike and took my RAC from ~600 to 1,000 in 6 days :) Probably won't stay there for long as I will go back to doing other projects but it was fun while it lasted!

Anti-Strike?
Well...we don't have to go to extremes now do we :o)

Crunch on.

P.S.: There are people out there trying to optimize clients (I'm one of them). Results look very promising so far. You can help too, check out the "are there any sites offering optimized clients" thread.

I agree.

I've been rather bemused watching all the heated silliness of the last few days. Meanwhile, the search for ET and new science rolls onwards...

Happy crunchin',

Good for you, now why did you post this is an area that is talking about crunching for Seti, are you trying to rub peoples noses in the fact that you have moved on? If not, just move on, your share will be crunched by someelse, just as wherever you have gone to, those people will not get the units you are now crunching. OH WAIT A MINTUE NOW...what if some of those people came over here and are now crunching for Seti and you are now overthere crunching for whatever? I guess it would be a wash, huh? Have a nice time crunching, just crunch!

SOME people CANNOT be made happy! Some people just have expectations that they are the one and only person in this whole world and nothing will make them happy until everyone else agrees with that idea. From my perspective, that will NEVER happen, I am here too, sorry but a fact of life as I seee it. To admit that they are the one and only, would be like saying that I am worthless. I am better than that!! They needto get over themselves and move on with their lives.
Crunch for whatever they wish too, just crunch!

Hey SETI.USA, don't forget to pull that knife out of SETI@home's back, so you can reuse it for something else.

Seems this violates rule #4. Will the mods do anything?

I'll bet that this post will be hidden first!

Matt, you've posted this before, and it has been deleted.

The mods have a very good reason to delete it again, as it violates their rules..

But will they? Heck no, as you are a golden child.

Some people seem to enjoy being yelled at.
Must be some form of masochism.

Do people optimize clients to get more credit for less
cpu time? I'm sure it's not to more efficently do the
science. And I'm not afraid to say it, I think that's
cheating...whose project is it anyway? And why do the
Boinc people allow it? isn't there a way to stop all of
this optimizing?

Yes, by going closed source.

However, since this project is run under GPL, there really is no way to stop anyone from compiling their own client.

As Eric Korpela has previously stated, they couldn't stop people from doing it if they wanted to. It's a feature of the license.

Also, why would you want to do less science? Not every optimizer's ultimate goal is credit - after all, it's meaningless anyway.

Some people may think it could benefit the project as a whole - in the way that everyone could run an optimized client, not just a few people. That would level the proverbial playing field while providing more research in less time.

Regards,
Simon.

You're getting credit according to the work you turn in.
The optimized applications do the same amount of work in a shorter time.

The main speedup comes from using intels highly optimized compiler and libraries.
