What would be the "correct" procedure(s) for getting your machine ready for enhanced if your using an optimized application?

Set Seti for now to No New Work under the Projects tab in Boinc Manager.
Run your cache empty.
Upload & report all work.

Exit BOINC completely. If you're using a service install, stop the service and close Boinc Manager.

Navigate to \\BOINC\\projects\\setiathome.berkeley.edu
Delete the optimized application and the app_info.xml file

Restart BOINC.
Set Seti to Allow new work under the Projects tab in Boinc Manager.

Yet!!! Seti Enhanced is gradually added to Seti. It is possible you will redownload Seti 4.18 and units for it and crunch that. So set your cache smaller.

I simply stopped BOINC, deleted the app_info.xml and then restarted BOINC. it is now downloading the standard application and WU's...it should pick up the enhanced also when it becomes available to my machine.

I also dropped my cache to .2

The right way?

Don't know, but I'm giving "The Bee"'s method (Here) a try. Seems to make sense even though I've never tried to understand the app_info file.
Note, you have to do your own app and dll downloads.

Now waiting for a WU

Michael

There was something omitted, to get the best credit advantage and reduce the "Credit Soup" you should be running the BOINC Core Client 5.2.6 or higher... Those running Trux's or one of the other optimized (5.2.x or higher) BOINC Core's will work... Seti enhanced Does Not use Benchmark's... Do Not use calibration with Seti Enhanced...

Yes, 5.4.x is getting very close to release...

Are you saying it is ok to use Trux's CC?

Pappa, thanks for your rapid response...

You shouldn't have to download the enhanced version yourself...BOINC should grab the new application (if warranted) along with an enhanced WU.

I could be wrong?

Michael

I have tested Trux 5.2.13tx with No ill effects (on several machines) in Seti Enhanced Beta... The Key is Not calibrate the Seti Enhanced...

Currently I have been migrating to the various 5.4.x I have 5.4.7 running on one with no problems...

Out of interest what was the date of the recorded data on the new enhanced WU?

So My computer runs Trux's client and Crunch3rs optimised application and I do'nt have to do anything to get en run enhanced right? No amendments to the info.xml either right?

Shutdown BOINC, Delete your app_info.xml, restart BOINC.

I also dropped my cache down so I can run low on WU.

I wo'nt do that cos most of the wu's are still "old" ones and I have 6 in cache.Want them crunched by Crunch3rs optimised application. Also running einstein@home and use the Askof app so I need the Trux client to.

It will still use the Crunch3r's application to process the old work units without the app_info.xml..until it downloads more WU that are not enhanced, then it will grab the standard application..which is why i lowered my cache considerably.

The right way?

Don't know, but I'm giving "The Bee"'s method (Here) a try.

... And after getting zero credit on a bunch of "normal" seti-wu and no hope of ever seeing an "enhanced"-wu, would recommend you starts reading What is SETI@Home Enhanced?, especially the last line: it is important that you use "setiathome_enhanced" as the application name.

The highly recommended method is as has already been mentioned, set "no new work", run-out of old work & report, delete app_info.xml & re-start BOINC.

Yes, it is possible to make a working app_info.xml, but I won't recommend this method currently, since there's likely one or more bugs that pops-up when now distributed to more computers, and bug-fixes means new applications...

With the typical app_info.xml that comes with an optimized science application, you won't get an enhanced work unit.
