Eric posted this in which he states: Hi Everybody, We've finally gottent to the point where we can attempt limited (few thousand per day) distribution of the Enhanced application in the main project! We will probably start in the next couple days. The job's not entirely done. We still have to figure out the Windows 98 timer problem and watch to make sure there's not a systemic problem with reading JPEG files. Thanks for all your help, and please stay tuned for AstroPulse. Tony You are bad! LOL Eric posted this in which he states: I want to add that without the Help that many of you have given, it would have fell further behind... My Personal Thank YOU Pappa Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |

So what happens if one is using an optimized application, with app info and or wisdom files? Will these files cause problems, or will the enhanced seti be able to ignore these extra files? |

Pam The answer is a resounding we do not know... BOINC on some projects has the shown the capability of running more than one application... In this case it is introducing a new Application alongside the existing 4.18 "In Theory" it should not matter... So what happens if one is using an optimized application, with app info and or wisdom files? Will these files cause problems, or will the enhanced seti be able to ignore these extra files? Will this enhanced SETI work as fast as an optimized version of SETI? Human Stupidity Is Infinite... |

Will this enhanced SETI work as fast as an optimized version of SETI? The word "enhanced" is inversely proportional to the word "optimized". No the enhanced units take much longer than the regular units. However there are optimized enhanced apps in the works. me@rescam.org |

Will this enhanced SETI work as fast as an optimized version of SETI? the enhanced app atleast doubles the sensitivity of the search, this cost time. Although, you'll get more credit/wu, you'll do less wus. |

Stefan Currently, I am going to say that it will take "twice" to 5 times as long as the current 4.18 Standard Application... This is Far Better than the ten times as long projection... Will this enhanced SETI work as fast as an optimized version of SETI? You will have to note that the 5.4.x BOINC Core Client is not released yet... The Seti Enhanced Application with the 5.2.6 ore higher BOINC Core Client is what makes Credits come out the same... The Idea is that no matter what computer you get the proper Credit for the work completed... Pappa Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |

Actually, it depends on the angle range of the result you are crunching how long it takes. The low ARs run in around 2 hours on my P4 2.8GHz, the high(er) ARs run in around 9 hours. With the standard SE application. The standard SE app is already optimized to take into account some of the SIMD options that the CPUs have. |

The Seti Enhanced Application with the 5.2.6 ore higher BOINC Core Client is what makes Credits come out the same... Not the same as regular seti, but the same as the other hosts running an enhanced wu. I.E now you have one host claiming 8 cobblestones, another claims 20 and the third claims 30. In enhanced with Fpops, all claim roughly (if not exactly) the same credit |

So what happens if one is using an optimized application, with app info and or wisdom files? Will these files cause problems, or will the enhanced seti be able to ignore these extra files? As long as you're using app_info.xml in a project, you'll never automatically download any new application from this project. Meaning, you'll not get any Seti_Enhanced-work before you've either manually deleted app_info.xml (resetting doesn't work) or you manually downloads & installs Seti_Enhanced and updated app_info.xml-file. Anyway, for the moment there's no reason to do anything, since AFAIK there isn't any enhanced work available for download yet. But, by the time they've stopping splitting "normal" work you should have made the neccessary changes, since otherwise you'll not get any work at all. |

Hi. Could you post some info how such an app_info.xml would look like. I'd like to crunch enhanced units if they show up, and keep crunching optimized standard units. Regards Hans |

So, this enhanced SETI will be replacing the current SETI eventually? Human Stupidity Is Infinite... |

I am looking forward to Seti enhanced. Although I never did get my volunteer tester tag...haha (I'm never gonna let you guys live that one down..;p) I am hoping that with the enhanced version, we just might find something. THEM! |

Could you post some info how such an app_info.xml would look like. It is a file by the name of app_info.xml in your \\BOINC\\projects\\setiathome.berkeley.edu folder. You will only have this file if you are running an optimised Seti application. One of those you can download from Crunch3r's site, for instance. If you never did, then you won't have the file. |

So, this enhanced SETI will be replacing the current SETI eventually? Cool deal, is the few thousand a day release due to server issues or to make sure that there aren't too many bugs or problems with it? Human Stupidity Is Infinite... |

Could you post some info how such an app_info.xml would look like. The "Appinfo.xml" file is used to tell seti to use a different science version rather than the standard. It's common/required if one uses an optimized application. It can be found at C:\\programfiles\\boinc\\projects\\setiathome.berkeley.edu and looks like this inside: - <app_info> - <app> <name>setiathome</name> </app> - <file_info> <name>setiathome_4.11_windows_intelx86.exe</name> <executable /> </file_info> - <app_version> <app_name>setiathome</app_name> <version_num>411</version_num> - <file_ref> <file_name>setiathome_4.11_windows_intelx86.exe</file_name> <main_program /> </file_ref> </app_version> - <app> <name>setiathome</name> </app> - <file_info> <name>setiathome_4.18_windows_intelx86.exe</name> <executable /> </file_info> - <app_version> <app_name>setiathome</app_name> <version_num>418</version_num> - <file_ref> <file_name>setiathome_4.11_windows_intelx86.exe</file_name> <main_program /> </file_ref> </app_version> </app_info> |

Thanks. I didn't know how to put 2 different app versions into one app_info.xml file. (mine has only one) Regards Hans |
