This new BOINC is GARBAGE. I uninstalled it and I advise ANYONE using it to do the same thing. Sad because I was a pretty loyal user, over 1,000 original credits and over 2,000 new credits.
Too bad so sad bye bye.
If you folks ever go back to the original SETI client please let me know - it worked great and I never had any issues.
BOINC on the other hand has crashed my entire system several times.
Not like my system can't handle it - dual p3 1.26GHz with over 2MB cache, 4GB ECC RAM, 3x 40GB (2x RAID 1 mirror and a hot spare), ATI Radeon 9000 - hello...
See ya.

I had over 2500 Classic credits, I now have over 215,000 SETI BOINC credits, and nearly 400,000 total BOINC credits. I see no problems. All 8 of the machines I have connect work 24/7.

The software works. I have been here for about 1.5 years and never had problems with the software.

Your system should be able to run BOINC with no problem. If it is crashing your system then there is something wrong with your system. Tens of thousands of other people are running BOINC with no problems.

I have tested BOINC on dozens of fresh Windows XP installations and find 30-40% of BOINC installations destroy the operating system so assuming that a pice of software is OK cos 'tens of thousands of other people' are OK is ridiculous. If this were a commercial piece of software then it would be dead and buried. This software is DANGEROUS and should be made unavailable until the installation issues are resolved.

And this from a person who installs Windows XP on all his systems... which must be updated to Service Pack 2 immediately after install, nothing said about all of the hotfixes and patches it needs on a daily additional basis.

And that is commercial and not buried, sadly. But hey, let's blame BOINC!

So far so good no problems to report whatsoever....

Windows 2000 Adv Server in a dual P3 1 GHz, ~ 1GB RAM, NVidia GeForce 6600...

And I'd be surprised to see such a small program as this one, to harm the OS.. especially since it is cross-platform..

Welcome aboard, and glad you are crunching away! Good to hear someone new that has made the change over without much problems.

We need more people like you to tell the nay-say'rs that they need to look closer at the software before they spout off.

I have 8 different machines currently, everything from a Celeron 500 to a P3, to a PMoblie and several P4, P4 Xeons, with and without HT. All run the software without any issues.
