Message 198960 - Posted: 29 Nov 2005, 23:48:38 UTC

I have downloaded Boinc and installed it.
Had some difficulty in finding all the pieces.
I located my email address and old password.
I also found my account on Boinc and have activated it.
I have been emailed the account key and Project url.
I have tried several time now following the attach to Project window and copied the details from the emial into the correct boxes, but every time It tells me
Failed to attach to project.
I have opened my account in Boinc and checked that everything is ok. But it still refuses to all me in.
What am I doing wrong.

A very frustrated person at this time.

I see 14K plus classic credits in your boinc account, that means you've activated AN account with a great deal of classic credit. Congratulations.

now on to your issue.

Boinc has found issues affecting small parts of the whole group that have moved over so far. We've added more than 20K users in 4 days. Rom Walton (developer) has been churning out fixes as they can be nailed down. THe current boinc Version is 5.2.13. If you have a previous WINDOWS version, you can click here and immediately download 5.2.13. Just install it right over the old, no need to uninstall. Then SHUT DOWN, (NOT restart) your puter,

then open boinc, does it say "connected to localhost" on the very bottom of the window (right hand side)?

If so try to attach, via Projects, attach to projects. If not then write back.

tony

If you have a firewall (software) the first time boinc starts after install you should see TWO prompts for access, one for boinc.exe and one for Boincmgr.exe

I see you trying to type. If you just click on "answer this question" you'll have a fresh box with which to type in.

man you're up late.

Anyway, click start, all programs, accessories, then select Command prompt, type in:

tracert 66.28.250.125
hit enter
does it complete successfully?

then type in:
tracert 128.32.18.173
hit enter
does it complete successfully?

Damn, I think you just joined a group of users (now totalling 5, of the 20K plus newly attached users) that can't attach and have the same symptoms. Noone has figured this one out yet, maybe you can.

Boinc manager needs ports 80, 1043, 31416 open for it's use. Some programs reserve a port and that messes things up. Also, when passwords are transmitted, boinc uses a SSL (secure socket layer) HTTPS transmission (versus the normal HTTP when normal coms are needed. SSL needs port 443 available.

Opening a Command Prompt box
type in
netstat -ao

hit enter.

see if some other programs is reserving any of those ports stopping you.

This Thread is in the NC forums, you can't post here without credit, but I believe you can read it. I started this thread for this problem.

Configuring a PORT problem, or firewall check it out, many people are guessing at a cure for you and the other 4.
