Have you gone to the seti website and set up a password under "your account"? try using that password instead of the hex key.

I did set up the password. Now what?

try attaching with the URL
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu
and enter the password
OR the key they mailed you

do both fail?

If both fail

Click Start, all programs, accessories, command prompt

in the command prompt type:

tracert 66.28.250.125

hit enter. does it get all the way to berkeley?

The first part does not help and the traceart does go all the way back to 66.28.250.125 and the connection fails when I try to run the bonic.

When the manager opens, click on "File", then "Select Computer", leave the boxes empty and click OK.

it should connect to Localhost.

does this help?

It tries to connect to Localhost but no luck.

Wish they still had the older verisons of the bonic still posted.

Tony, he's using 4.45, which doesn't have the attach wizard yet, so the password is not going to work.

William, which project are you trying to attach to? This Seti project?
Fill in the URL as http://setiathome.berkeley.edu
Now the 32 character authenticator key goes in the next box. Make sure it doesn't have any spaces in front or behind.

4.45 is an OLD version we're up to 5.2.8 now. Anyway, here is a link to ALL boinc versions.

What you are seeing is a failure of the boinc manager on your puter to connect to the Boinc daemon on your puter. seems a network issue.

could you try file, select computer, and type in "localhost" (no quotation marks) and see if it connects?

I knew it didn't have the wizard, I was curious if it would work though, that's why I didn't have him input an email, it's a straight URL and key, but hoped the password would work, thanks though

Ok... can you copy the last 20 messages from your Message tab and post them here? Maybe that we can glance off of that what is happening.

I've seen issues with 5.2.8, but 5.2.7 was good, try that one. NOTE: if you go backwards in numbers you MUST uninstall before installing an older one.

let me know

note, with all V5 versions you'll need to attach with the new wizard, enter URL then email and password you just created, not the hex key.

What you are seeing is a failure of the boinc manager on your puter to connect to the Boinc daemon on your puter.

This could be caused by the firewall, couldn't it?
William, did you make sure that the firewall does not block boincmgr.exe and boinc.exe?
