Assuming ET does exist and we get a confirmation of signals from our 2.5 Mhz frequency. What next? What do you think the government would do? How would it change our daily life? Just a brainstorming question. :) ID: 183939 ·  |

Assuming ET does exist and we get a confirmation of signals from our 2.5 Mhz frequency. What next? I already assume ET exists. What will the Govenment do? What can they do? They can do nothing, any more than they can do something about the existance of Saturn. It's there, end of. As I already assume ET is out there somewhere, so it won't really change my life much if I know it for sure, any more than my life got changed by knowing that there are planets about other stars. After all, I assumed that to be the case to start witt, and now know it is the case. I would like to have my belief, that has no foundation, replaced by a known and accepted fact, though, which I why I partake of SETI@HOME/Boinc. IMHO.  Foamy is "Lord and Master". Assuming ET does exist and we get a confirmation of signals from our 2.5 Mhz frequency. What next? Suicidal people will commit suicide. Happy people will go extatic. Stock market will go up and down. Lawyers will prepare lawsuits for people who say they were kidnapped by aliens. Sci-fi nuts will prepare welcoming parties for aliens. Governments will make plans for how to gain an advantage from the new situation. Generals will prepare for war against a "new kind of enemy". Religious people will go atheist. Atheists will start to believe in God. Business will start using brands containing "Alien", "SETI", "UFO", ... In short: Business as usual... "Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?"

The government will most likely ban re-runs of "War of the Worlds", "Independence Day" and "Mars Attacks", in order to prevent mass-hysteria and a worldwide panic that will plunge the stockmarket into the biggest depression since the 1920's. Other then that they are going to increase taxes to fund the increased Defense-budget. ID: 184465 · |

No the Gov wont ban them, The PC brigade will, so we don't offend ET. The fairly obvious truth, that ET won't get to see the films till well after we are no longer here, won't bother them, as the PC brigade don't have a brain cell between the lot of them.
