I participated of SETI@home for a long time, long before it turned to be called "SETI@home Classic". Now I wanted to activate the SETI@home/BOINC account. But there are two problems: First, obviously there's something wrong with my old password. I have noted it, but it seems, in a wrong way. I tried many times to type it in correctly, but it don't worked. Second, I can't get my account key emailed to me, because I changed my email address AND internet provider two months ago, therefore my old email address don't works anymore! If you are in doubt about my identity, i can email you a screenshot of my SETI@home workscreen to verify the amount of data units completed / total computer time. Meanwhile, I created a new SETI@home/BOINC account, at which you could link my old account, if possible. If not, please tell me what to do. |

I am also in the same boat. My original email has expired many years ago and I have no clue what my password was if I even had one. All I ever needed was my old email address. I don't want to lose credit for almost 8000 units and 5 years of work. |

I don't want to lose credit for almost 8000 units and 5 years of work. I also hate being asked when in account editor for an old, non-maintained 'password' even though I logged-in with my newest BOINC account key. I cannot change my old email to my new email account name for this silly reason. I retire at the end of September 2005 and it is clear that my 5 years of contribution will be lost. The implementation of the new 'SETI@home' is a classic 'new software' disaster; the old one was crude, but it was easy to use and maintain. I'll be running Seti@home Classic until it is killed by the unknowing but well-meaning... It's been fun guys, but, no more! Sincerely, Oildog1 Now: eddy@sugar-land.oilfield.slb.com Changing to: oildog1@gmail.com if a miracle occurs... |

I don't want to lose credit for almost 8000 units and 5 years of work. I'm in a similar boat, though I *do* have my SETI@Home classic data linked in now to my BOINC account. But I don't know the password, and I just made a silly mistake, I changed the "founder" of my group to my wife's account, and hers has an old email at a now defunct ISP. So I guess there's now no way to set myself as founder, as I (and she) don't know her password either, and obviously she can't get email giving it anyway, since her old email account doesn't exist anymore! |

It appears that no one with the ability to answer our questions or link our accounts for us is reading these forums. |

Same boat here. Over 79,000 hours of contribution. It seems that it would be easy enough to transfer the credits over to the BOINC account. |

Activate your BOINC account. Then change the email address for both accounts to your 'NEW' email address. --------------------------------------------- Unforutately if you do not have access to your password or email address there is very little that can be done. And to make sure everyone is on the wave length, the SETI classic totals are only recorded in your new BOINC SETI accounts. They are not actively carried over. Every one starts at zero credits. Although here is an old thread, on the same issue, that might be of help. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=15266 You need a second life? Seconlife.com |

I WAS in the same boat. My ISP was bought out by another ISP which in turn was bought out by Earthlink, and the service was so bad for a while that there was a successful class-action lawsuit about it (I got about $30 as I recall), and I ended up cancelling my service finally. Then I lost my password. This was years ago. But today, I asked an Earthlink customer service person to make me an account with my old email address in the name of my old ISP (Earthlink still owns the name but is not using it for anything anymore), and after some persistence and explaining, she did! Score a big one for Earthlink on that one. I then had SETI send the password to my old address, and picked it up from webmail. Whatever your old email address was, one of the following is true. A. The domain name is not owned by anyone anymore. So you can buy it and create that address. B. The domain name is owned by someone, but the address is not being used; whoever owns the domain can create that address and let you use it, if they're willing to. Ask them. C. The domain name is owned by someone and the address is being used by someone. Email them and ask them if they will send you your password after you get SETI to send it to them. In cases B and C you have to depend on someone being nice to you, and in the case of a large business, you have to depend on finding a person who has the authority and the technical competence to give you what you want. But it's more hopeful than trying to argue with the SETI authorities about their set policy. Good luck, everyone. |

I have a similar question. I've linked my Classic account to BOINC a long while ago. So, my BOINC account lists my Classic credits, but only as of mid-March. In the meantime, I've been running both classic and BOINC concurrently. Will I ever get credited for the new classic workunits I've done? |

I joined with an email of wkankovsky@home.com. After several interations/buyouts, my address is now wkankovsky@comcast.net. Can these accounts be joined? Yes, I no longer have the original password. You can check that my original work units stopped just before my current work units began. |

I had a problem when I tried to transfer my account info to the BIONIC. You had a different email address so I ended up creating a New profile for myself. I would like to continue with running Seti but do not want to loose all my previous statistics. Now that my email is correct how can I get my info transferred over to the BIONIC and run under the new software. email: jdgiuliani@wowway.com ____________ |

I don't want to lose credit for almost 8000 units and 5 years of work. so lame.. same problem with me too! I suppose if we make enough noise then we can get some help but I doubt it. My original email address was hawkinwinter@home.com Recall that this was an old high speed internet provider that has long since been sold. The home.com domain now redirects to a website in Japan. I tried emailing the owners of the domain but they never responsed - I doubt they would respond even if I wrote the email in Japanese. So I have no way to get a 'temporary' email address to reset my password. This sucks. /cry |

It has been suggested by Greybeard to previous people with the same problem to email setidba at berkeley.edu (I think I have that right, Greybeard can correct me if I'm wrong). It may take a while for them to respond since they are very busy, but if you have patience, I'm sure they can help. |

I just tried and got an e-mail blocked by my spam filter as the e-mail address of the "to" doesn't contain any @ caracter. Please check if the given e-mail address is still valid and your ISP doesn't block any e-mail with subject "SETI@home" from setiweb@ssl.berkeley.edu. Well, I don't feel as the Great Guru in here, but as I have been cited by OzzFan, I'll do my best... The mail address is setidba at ssl.berkeley.edu BUT:

I've no problem to recieve mails from boincadm@ssl.berkeley.edu, then I think there is no block on this type of address and my old address is valid (I've tested it). |

I've no problem to recieve mails from boincadm@ssl.berkeley.edu, then I think there is no block on this type of address and my old address is valid (I've tested it). boincadm@ssl.berkeley.edu is the e-mail address used by the server here to send your account key. 2 different things: 1. At Seti Classic, the e-mail address is different and is setiweb@ssl.berkeley.edu 2. As I said, the spam filter I'm using on my host blocked the e-mail received from Seti Classic as the addressed person didn't had the @ in it. Please try to contact your ISP to know if you could have received an e-mail with subject Seti@Home that didn't came trough to you. |
