The new equipment was the up and downloaders, not splitters. The splitters are working fine, and ran out of tapes. There were plenty of tapes in last night, but we went through them all.

Berkeley is just getting on campus, and I am betting new tapes will be in shortly.

I never ran out of work to do, all through the problem.

If you leave your computers on 24/7, just up your contact frequency to 3 or 4 days, and it will stock up WUs to crunch through any slow times.

If your computer is only on intermittently, it is not good to stock up so many, which may not get done in time. So maybe just 1 day contact frequency...

Here I am. Actually working at home this morning. My arms are less than 5 miles long otherwise I'd be able to stick a new tape in the drive at the lab. I'll be up this afternoon (and it takes a while for 35GB to be read off the first tape).

In the meantime, work is being generated, just not enough to keep up with all the demand (just most of the demand).

The validator has to work through all of the newly uploaded WU's to make sure they are valid. Only then can the credits be issued. Plus, all the errors due to the pre-v4.19 clients might negate any positive spikes we could have possibly seen after the outage.

There is a "natural" delay between the time you do the work and the time you get the credit. If you look in the Wiki you can dig up explanations of the all of the issues that go into the process.

Some key terms:
Result Deadline
Validation process
Reporting Process

Ok, I give up...exactly how does one "up your contact frequency?" I've scoured the BOINC manager program without success.

Go to your preferences, edit, Set "Connect to network about every" to something other than it is now, Save changes.

Open Boinc manager, Projects tab, select the Seti project and either use the Update button on the left or rightclick on Seti and choose Update manually from the drop down menu. (That depends on which Boinc version you use)
