Is anyone experiencing a problem of being completely disconnected. Nothing is processing? All my previous work is gone. I've tried to reinstall the software and all that happens when the program starts is a message of "Disconnected"? Any ideas?

The GUI (BoincMGR) is disconnected when starting. It takes up to what I have seen as 5 minutes before it connects to the Boinc software and starts reporting what is going on.

Give that a try and see if it works.

Happy Boinc'ing, and welcome aboard.

Mine Comes up disconnected no matter how long i leave it alone. It used to connect maybe 80% of the time first go, and the other 20% on second try (shut down boinc and open again) now its just not connecting at all.

There's a project running on my computer if i leave boinc open and disconnected but I've got no boinc to do anything. help.

Mine will do that if it is rebooted with a WU left in memory. To fix it save everything shut it down and turn off power to the power supply. Wait about 2 minutes and boot it up and it should be back to normal.

The same problem is happening to me. The difference is that BOINC comes up showing the Local Host Connected in the status bar, but after a few seconds I get a message from BOINC Manager that it cannot complete a connection. The result turns into a blank BOINC screen with the Disconnected icon in the status bar. I have tried the obvious remediations with no success as yet.

Other than waiting (very unsatisfactory - since there is no indication of anything happening, I've turned off power - waited 5 minutes - turned it back on, and still get the same "Disconnected" problem. Are there any specific port / firewall settings I should know about?

BOINC.exe needs to act as a server on ports 1043 and 31416 normally it only listens for IP address 127.0.0.1 (but can be told to listen for more). BOINCMgr.exe needs to call (normally only to IP 127.0.0.1) on those ports.

Quite often the Manager BOINCMgr.exe tries to start talking before the daemon (BOINC.exe) is ready to listen. You can try File - Select Computer - (Leave everything blank), or File - Select Computer - localhost.

Nope - didn't work - BOINC says connecting to localhost and then fails.

I've got other PCs running just fine

Somebody ever thought of EXTRAS, OPTIONS, HTTP Proxy?

Hmmm... Good point - but no - that's not it. [frustratedly] and BOINC used to work on this system

When I have had this problem it was due to a WU being left in memory during reboot and the only I fixed it was to clear it from being left in memory, it could even come down to resetting the bios.

(checks post date and edits into past time help. ;))

There's a project running on my computer if i leave boinc open and disconnected but I've got no boinc to do anything. help.

A project is running? If you see it in Task Manager, you can try to kill this one by choosing the running project with a rightclick, then from the drop down menu choose End Process and confirm it.

That should kill the process and you should be able to start Boinc again with everything running.

Which project was it that was running? If CPDN, then there's a good chance you will lose all progress for that unit, or even the whole unit. (and your last trickles)
