For some reason one of my 10 PCs crunching SETI & Einstein cannot connect with SETI. I've tried to reinstall the BOINC software (4.45), disabled my firewall (Outpost 1.0), played with my internet security options and even removed most references to BOINC in the registry before reinstalling the software. Other PC's have no problem communicating at the same time. This unit (Win 2K SP4) is a clone of another (same hardware) and has been working fine up to the 6th of July. In trying to update and later, trying to attach, I get an error saying the project is shut down for maintenance. I don't get this message on the other systems. By the way my internet connection and Einstein are working fine. Any clues will be helpful. Dr.Mike |

When you did the re-install, did you completely delete the entire BOINC folder and sub-folders? |

Finally - the full text of the message I get when trying to attach to SETI: Something looks odd to me. Yours has some extra in the web address. This is what mine looks like. 7/9/2005 6:33:42 PM|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi 7/9/2005 6:33:42 PM|SETI@home|Requesting 0 seconds of work, returning 1 results 7/9/2005 6:33:43 PM|SETI@home|Scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi succeeded 7/9/2005 8:14:40 PM|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi 7/9/2005 8:14:40 PM|SETI@home|Requesting 0 seconds of work, returning 0 results 7/9/2005 8:14:41 PM|SETI@home|Scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi succeeded 7/9/2005 8:14:42 PM|SETI@home|Started download of 01no03aa.12221.18289.248564.236 Edit; Well not the address but the |SETI@home|. |

No help there, I'm afraid. The correct URL to attach is: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu Is that correct? |

Yes. That is what my email says. I just mean that it looks odd that when you copied your messages that yours says, "|http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/|" and mine says,"|SETI@home|". I'm not sure what can be done about it or if it was just automatically converted to that the way that Word will auto complete things. |

I think it changes to "SETI@home" when you attach to the project - and that I cannot do . . . Thanks for trying. Dr. Mike |

I see a lot of people having trouble with connecting and I can't help thinking that maybe clearing the DNS cache might help. I don't know much about it but from what I understand is that some times, like when a ISP moves it server, a wrong DNS address gets saved in you cache. Maybe that is what has been happening to some of our people. Below is an address of instructions if you want to give it a try. I did it a few months back for an unrelated problem and it seemed fairly harmless. ONE/Norhtwest |

Tracert results below: Intersting you trace to setboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu, but it traces to setiboincDATA.ssl.berkeley.edu. You end up at address 66.28.250.12*5*, but my trace goes to 66.28.250.12*4*. Looks like you're trying to access the 'old' server. There must be a stale DNS entry somewhere, probably at your end. Try: Ipconfig /flushdns |

Tracert results below: I had tried that first, without results. But that gave me an idea and I reversed the prefered order of the servers my ISP uses for DNS and that worked! I'm back in business - thanks all for helping. Dr. Mike |

did you do uninstall and made sure that there was no boinc.exe & Boinc apps running? Sometimes you have to stop them manualy. If you have pending 'ready to report' wu's and deleted the boinc folders, you will not get credit for the work. You will also be penalize by limiting the number of wu's you will be able to download. One needs to be patience. Do you have work for an other project? If so suspend all other projects and do an update on you project. The message may say 7/10/2005 3:33:54 PM|SETI@home|Requesting 69445 seconds of work, returning 0 results If your computer is requesting 0 second than you computer doesn't think you need work. There maybe a message no work from project 7/10/2005 9:04:22 PM|LHC@home|Deferring communication with project for 10 seconds you need to wait untill that time is up and then the following mesage 7/10/2005 3:33:57 PM|SETI@home|Scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi succeeded hope this helps Fred BOINC Alpha, BOINC Beta, LHC Alpha, Einstein Alpha |
