1)Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it? What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?
A statistic analysis brings us with the truth meanning of live --> very dificult to obtain, easy to destroy (is this truth ?) but possible. There is a zone in our galaxy full of ethanol (CH3CH2OH) which is a rather complex molecule to be "born" alone (without microorganism activity)... so why not ? :)
But statistics and probability say that maybe we are not going (we = humans) to find life because of the huje distances that separate matter in the universe.
Philosofically the benefits are enourmous... the antropormorfic idea vannishes. Scientificaly benefits came from understanding the rules of the universe. Of course that life like we know can be perturbed by them...
2.Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send?
Humans should be always transmitting beacons. Even to each others. Each star transmit light to it's surroundings why shouldn't we be doing the same ?. We should transmit something human made. Some kind of wave data that can be uniquelly identified with something that our factories make, for example.
3.Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions?
At the begginning just for fun. Because it was something that I had never made and connected me indirectally to millions of people all arround.
But nowadays, it's more than that. Each time I thing in this I remmember something i read in this page some years ago about a romenian kid ... it was a nice text about people all arround the world at Christmas. Everyone was with their famillies but at the same time everybody was connected. We are connected in simple thing.. like from time to time check our results :) |
