Personal background
I'm Anna, age 35, from Green Bay, WI.

I'm a solar energy specialist and computer technician by day. By night, I... I mostly read, watch TV, and listen to music/podcasts. Such daring, much adventure!

I have a soft spot for old/worn-out Internet memes, I love emojis, and spend way too much time looking at silly GIF animations.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run Seti@Home because I'm convinced that life must be abundant in the universe, and that intelligence and technological civilizations are not unique to Earth.

I've been inspired by SETI from the moment I learned of it: around age 12 or 13, probably in Sky & Telescope or Popular Science. I grew up as an astronomy and space exploration enthusiast, and SETI was a catalyst for me at an important time in my life. I came of age reading books by Carl Sagan, Arthur C. Clarke, and Stephen Hawking, and I unsurprisingly pursued my education in science and technology. I even wrote a paper on Jill Tarter in college!

I started running the SETI@Home screensaver on my parents' Pentium 133 desktop computer in April 1999. I spent the next 7 years building and running multi-cpu computer systems specifically to run S@H CLI workloads (and occasionally compile my comp sci homework). I stopped crunching in 2006 when I couldn't afford higher electric bills, but S@H's been sitting in the back of my mind ever since.

I'm returning from a 10 year hiatus after hearing about the Breakthrough Listen initiative. It seems like the project could use some more processing power, and my passion for SETI remains as strong as ever!

Given my love for energy efficiency and solar energy, I'm interested in optimizing computational output and energy consumption. My systems are currently running S@H on a partial uptime / throttled basis, but I'd like to build a system with a low-TDP CPU/GPU config that I can run 24/7. For now, I'm happy with anything I can contribute, and I'm setting my goals by kWh/day.
