Resource share setting

Resource share setting
(Message 1959650)
Posted 11 Oct 2018 by AlienDancer Post: I currently have resource share for Einstein set at 100 (20%) and Seti set at 400(80%). Historically this seems to have worked well for many years. I have recently noticed where my Einstein average credit is way up and Seti is coming down so for the past month I have been watching it more closely and now I am sure I am getting more Einstein work than Seti. My average credit for Einstein is still going up while Seti is just barely staying even.. I would change the settings but haven't a clue what I should set them to to get the balance I want. What caused me to take a closer look at what is going on was getting a new machine and wondering how it was going to do. The new machine is also getting more Einstein work than Seti. Anyone have any ideas on what I might change. |

Panic Mode On (92) Server Problems?
(Message 1607808)
Posted 1 Dec 2014 by AlienDancer Post: I still have a few stragglers on a couple of machines and even picked up a few new ones yesterday. My Einstein rac is higher than its ever been and seti is falling. I've even added a third project Bitcoin and I think I'm posting more in the forums than ever before cause I keep reading them trying to determine when SETI is coming back. I had all old and slow machines back in 2012 so I never actually ran out of work except on one machine. Crunching since 1999. |

Posted 30 Nov 2014 by AlienDancer Post: Well I got it attached and after some fooling around got it running only #5 tasks but they all very quickly got computing errors. The machine it on is a laptop but a new one and should of been capable of doing everything but the cuda, technically it could even do cuda but I stopped running cuda on laptops because of problems. Anyway I'm not sure why the compute errors and I'll deal with them a bit more later today and maybe try bitcoin on a better machine. Anyone else have issues with compute errors on bitcoin. |

(Message 1607232)
Posted 30 Nov 2014 by AlienDancer Post: I am currently running Einstein on all my machines that have run out of SETI work and will probably run out of seti tasks today on all but one machine that snaged a few a couple of days ago after it ran out and I had already started running Einstein on it. I just read about this project on this thread so I went to attach it on the machine that currently has no Einstein tasks and is about to run out of SETI. As far as I can see there is no Bitcoin or Utopia listed. So what exactly is this and how can I attach to it? If it doesn't run under BOINC I probably will just forget it anyway info about this would be helpful. Thanks |

Panic Mode On (92) Server Problems?
(Message 1605029)
Posted 24 Nov 2014 by AlienDancer Post: I'm beginning to wonder whether there really is no work. I understand that a server needs to be rebuilt and that building a server is harder than building a personal machine but if I had been persistent I could have gotten several machines up and running by now. Just wondering, when work returns I will be loyal to SETI but I'm thinking I might want to look at what else is out there interesting to crunch. |

Panic Mode On (92) Server Problems?
(Message 1604261)
Posted 22 Nov 2014 by AlienDancer Post: I have been crunching SETI since 1999 and I will stick with SETI, I will pick up Einstein work as my machines run out. I pick up a bit of Einstein now and again anyway. This is about the driest period I can remember, so far the only machine that has "run out" is a new machine I just put online to replace some newer older machines. Now might be a good time for me to switch one of my machines to Linux as I have been planning to do for some time now. I still have work on 4 machines, I stopped one of them from getting new tasks because I'm going to stop it from crunching away. I have come to the conclusion its just not a good idea to crunch on laptops especially their GPU's. Hope everyone gets tasks soon. |

Posted 7 Oct 2014 by AlienDancer Post: Thanks, I do play some games but don't need SLI. I'm looking at different cards but I think the GTX 750 sounds good. Since I started looking at getting a new card I have found out that the GTX 640 is on the motherboard not separate like I thought. I just sent an email to ASUS tech support to find out what the machine will handle. |

Posted 6 Oct 2014 by AlienDancer Post: I'm considering adding a second video card. I currently have a NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 and wanted to add a better card. Doing some research I discovered that I would have to add the exact same video card or they would not work together. So I have two questions. Is it correct that I must add the same card, and two would it be better to upgrade to say a NVIDIA GeForce GT 690 and have only one card or would two GT 640 be the better option. Thanks for any replies. |

Question for Linux users
(Message 1575777)
Posted 22 Sep 2014 by AlienDancer Post: Thanks for info, had no idea there were so many versions of linux out there. Looks like I have a bit of reading to do. I have done a through cleaning of the machine but that didn't help. Not sure I want to invest the time or effort into doing much else with it. I once built and repaired machines but not really into doing that much anymore and I especially don't like taking apart laptops. I had already purchased a new laptop and about to send the machine to recycling when a friend told me about tthrottle so I tried it and to my surprise the machine has been running very well. I've been watching it and for the most part the machine hangs around 95% of capacity running nothing but SETI. Now since I had this extra machine I thought it would be an excellent time to try Linux if I could find a way to throttle the machine on Linux, I don't see a version of tthrottle for Linux but the previous poster gave me some ideas on that. As a matter of fact I was so impressed with tthrottle I have it monitor the temp on all my machines so hopefully I will catch any overheating problems before they become any real problems occur. |

Posted 21 Sep 2014 by AlienDancer Post: Thanks for the advice on Linux systems, I get what your saying but its not like I would actually buy another computer if I scrapped it as it already has been replaced. I have taken it apart and cleaned it and its not worth doing anything more to it than that. So far its been running throttled on windows 7 without any reboots for a few weeks. I've got the hardware tests which you mentioned but since my purpose is to have the machine run seti for as long as it is able I'm not into trying to fry it. I might leave it on windows 7 if I can't find a throttle program for Linux because power saving settings aren't going to work, at least they did not in windows 7. |
