I just finished an excellent novel called "Constellation Games" by Leonard Richardson. It is one of the best sci-fi novels I have ever read. I rate it right up there with Heinlein and PKD.

So just to make sure I am understanding correctly. This happens if some really loud radio interference gets into the antenna? I guess the thing I am most worried about is that this is not an error that happens exclusively on Linux? Is that so?

I just had a WU that took less than 40 seconds to complete. I have noticed this happen a few times now and curiosity has gotten the better of me. Is this normal? I am not running on a GPU but am running on Linux. Do other platforms get this issue. I am assuming this is a glitch and not just a really really small work unit. Any info would be appreciated.

For about a week I had disabled Astropulse from my settings page. Then I decided that I wanted to enable it again. So I enabled it again, but I still wasn't getting any workunits. I thought that there just weren't any to give out at the moment, so I have just been patient. But that was several months ago. So has it just been that there haven't been any AP WUs or is it a problem on my end?

Sink cat says he prefers tap water because it is more environmentally friendly. But in reality he just can't open those damned water bottles.

Bingo! We didn't notice that error until after we had finished eating the thing.

Bonus points to the first person who can spot the one error that we made.

Frank Drake (of Drake Equation fame) and associates, tried to communicate to ET by creating a mathematical image and broadcasting it into space from the Arecibo radio telescope. The message has come to be known as the Arecibo Message.

In the film ET, the protagonist Elliot tries to communicate his good intentions by laying down a path of Reese's Pieces.

I decided that I would combine those two methods. The picture on my SETI profile page is the result.

I am running AP on Linux 64bit and they always seem to have Computation errors at random points. Most recently my cpu had spent 40 hours crunching on one and was more than 95% complete when the error occurred. Is anyone else having similar problems?

One of my favorites is:

Buckle up. It stops the aliens from sucking you out of your car!

Contact obviously a favourite here. I have read twice myself.

One of the things I like about "Encounter with Tiber" is that it is written from the human point of view and the alien point of view as well. There are also some great scientific explanations. Quite a bit of effort was spent in consulting different scientific authorities to make sure the science was accurate in the story. I guess you can expect that coming from an ex-astronaut.

What is everybody's favourite SETI themed Science Fiction novel?

Mine is "Encounter with Tiber" by Buzz Aldrin and John Barnes, followed closely by Contact.
